    C-3 Gas Cap ID

I have a locking gas cap that came with my 1972 base motor corvette. Was this a dealer installed option? The gas cap is chrome with a "Briggs & Stratton " key. The face of the cap is texured around the key out to about 1/4" from the edge. The only numbers on the cap are underneath. The number is EE54-3-Z-75. This number is on the zinc alloy lock device cover. The cover is held in place by three pan head machine screws. I believe that this is a dealer installed option on 1968 - 1970 models. Is this correct?

A locking gas cap is a dealer installed item in 1968 to 1972 and probably beyond. The 1968-1972 style has a flat polished chrome top. The dimpled style you describe is of newer vintage. That said, we do not generally judge these since most owners show the car with the standard gas cap.
