62 Tranny shifter

Hey Guys-

On my 62 with a 4 speed I no longer have any gears. When driving it a few weeks back I lost the gears one at a time and now the shifter just flops around so it appears more of a shifter problem than anything else. The shifter also just slides loosely along the shaft it should attach to. Does anyone know what is wrong here? I assume I am missing a pin or some type of connector but cant find any pics or diagrams of this paerticular area to give me detail. Please let me kow any ideas.

I don't know about your 62's shifter but your problem reminds me of something that happened to my 63 SS Impala 4-speed when I ventured a trip from San Diego to LA. Right in LA on a Sat nite in 1967 and something happenend happened to my shifter. I got underneath the car and by hands on put the transmisson in third and drove it back to San Diego. Discovered later a pin had came out. When I went to the Chevy dealer to get the new part I bought two. Still have the extra part.

At least mine went out a block from home. Sounds like the similar problem with the shifter. Thanks for the help.

Todd I looked in my Corvette parts book and it showed the 3-speed and 4-speed Corvette shifters. The page said this was for 57-63 shifters with pictures. I did not see where the pin I refered to in the above post would apply. Perhaps Joe Lucia with his vast parts reference could help here. There is also Dale Pearman, he has a vast knowledge of what the problem is.
