I have a 1972 base motor air cleaner base, top and breather setup. As I read the JM, its indicates that all of the tops were chrome plated. Mine is black and has always been that way. Where can I get my top re-plated. It obviously was bead blasted sometime in the past. I need a recommendation on a plating shop. Thanks.

Re: C-3 1972 Air Cleaner assembly
Passenger car Chevys from the era were black vs. chrome. Any competent local chrome plating shop can help you out, but look before you leap! There were VERY subtile differences between the Corvette and pass car air cleaner lids--deals with how 'peaked' the tops of the outer, circular reinforcement stampings are. It'd be a shame to spend the $$$ to have your existing cover chromed only to find you'd spent the money 'restoring' an 'incorrect' passenger car lid.
The difference is visually subtle, so if you don't feel comfortable making the visual distinction, it's time to go to one of your local NCRS chapter meetings and get some help comparing the lid you have to one that's known to be correct.
Textual descriptions and pictures aren't as much of a help as bona fide side by side comparison....- Top
