    Trim and Vin tag rivets

    New question.

    My 1967 has what I've heard described as a "rosette" headed rivet holding the VIN tag in place. I'm not 100% sure (as my car is in storage for the winter), but I believe my Trim tag has a more standard "round" headed rivet holding it in place.

    Questions (lets say relating just to mid-years):

    1. Were "rosette" rivets always used on the VIN tags? If not, when were they introduced?

    2. What rivets are correct for Trim tags?

    I believe mine are standard rivets, I will have to check when I get home.

        1963 and 64 Corvette VIN tags were attached with 2 spot welds. Early 1965 Corvette VIN tags were attached with two "round-head" standard-type rivets. Later 65 through 67 were two "rossette"-type rivets. Trim tags were attached with two "pop-rivets" for all years.

        1968-82 had VIN tag moved to left inside window pillar and the tag is attached with 2 "rosette"-type rivets, although the rivets are usually not visible or barely visible. 1968-82 trim tags were attached to the inner front door jamb with two pop-rivets.

                If I remember correctly, the "rosette" rivets first started appearing about s/n 7800. I believe that they were used intermittently to about s/n 10,000. After that, I think the conversion to "rosette" rivets was pretty much complete.
