I am in the process of restoring a 71 LT-1. I have collected most of the parts , but I seem to be running into a problem finding a 272 Coil. I have been told, even if I can find one, there is a good chance it will not Work. These coils were never made NOS, and were only availible on the assembly line. so they are all used.I was also told that if the car idles with a 272 coil, the car could still misfire under load .I have a long time to find a 272, but should I set my sites a little lower? Thank You Ken Pratt

Re: 272 Coil
I'm not sure you can generalize that most used 272 coils will not work, but I can say they are not seen very often as are other "assembly line" only coils like 263, 210 etc. In fact most used coils will serve people well for a long time. The only sure way to test a coil is to put it on a car and run it for 15 or 20 miles. It either works or it doesn't. to my knowledge the only TI coil made in service was #207. It seems the TI cars need the proper coil to run at their best. Don't waste your time or money on these so called rebuilt or reproduction coils. I don't believe a coil can be rebuilt as per original, but it can be resleeved. A resleeved XXX coil will not make you 71 LT-1 run right either. I the absence of a #272 coil your next best bet would be a #207.- Top

Re: 272 Coil
The 207 is the correct coil for servicing the TI ignitions, and fyi, Dave Fiedler at TI Specialty does have a few NOS examples. He also has a new coil that he sells for TI replacement, considerably cheaper than the going price of $200-300 for a 307 NOS coil. He worked with a coil supplier to match the impedance of the the 307...and he sells it for $125....Craig- Top
