C2 Cable question for Joe Lucia

I took your earlier advice and called Dr. Rebuild and ordered a 66 4sp speedometer cable part#9750124. I verified this # with the Dr. However, my problem is: the cable I took off my car is approx. 67-68" and has threaded couplings on both ends. The cable that Dr. Rebuild sent was about 10" longer and the end that goes to the speedo doesn't have the threaded piece to screw into the speedo. The end appears to be the push on type with the cable recessed. I think this was for the newer vettes with the clip assembly. Did the Doc send me the wrong cable?? My old cable appears to be corect but not sure. I plan on following up with Doc on Monday. Is there anything else I should look for?

    Rich-----

Yes, it does sound like you were sent the wrong cable. Yours should have the screw on connectors on both ends. The snap-on connectors for the speedometer end did begin in 1968 and cannot be used with a screw-on type speedometer.

I can't find any current GM cable assembly which meets your length and fitting specifications. However, if anyone knows of one, it will be Dr. Rebuild. Through Delco, there may be many more cable assemblies available than through GM and the Doctor may know of them.

      Addendum

After more (and somewhat exhaustive) research on this subject, I find the following:

The original SERVICE speedometer cable for your application was GM #1588291. In February, 1971, this changed to GM #6478128. Later, this changed to GM #6480374 and, later yet, to GM #25032275. The latter part remains available from GM and Delco. It may also be known as a Delco "CC-75".

You might ask Dr. Rebuild to check to see if the one that he shows as being correct for the 67 application jives with the number I provided above. If it does and that's the one he sends out, I think you'll be there.

Thanks for the info. I believe they did send the wrong cable. I just wanted to make sure before I called them. The cable they sent has part# GM#88959478. I don't know what it relates to though. Thanks again....Rich

Yep its the same number. Either it was packed wrong by Delco - so please check the number on the Delco package and file a report. Or it was picked wrong by the warehose - if it is not 25032275. Call Mon and we will get the wet noodle ready for the whipping.

That number just happens to cross to our # 9752124. So instead of picking our part # 9750124, they picked #9752124. Things just haven't been the same since the chief noodle left.

            The chief noodle.

PS I will instuct the lesser noodles to ship the proper one on Monday with info on the return of the other.

Sounds like you need another "noodle" to oversee operations while you enjoy retirement. I just happen to know a young, good looking guy, who lives near you, that would fit the bill. In fact, he is a Corvette nut. Some may even go so far as to call him a Vette Head. I think he is in the donut business now, but he is willing to change careers in a New York minute! Does the job come with a company Corvette?

The only company Corvette you might get is the pedal kind, meant for youngsters named Robert. Then again, maybe a pink Barbie one like Katie just got, remote controlled and all.

Only retired Chief Noodles get the privilege of company Corvettes with 8 cylinders of various sizes. In fact, Chief Noodle had to retire to acquire them!

Re: C2 Cable question for Joe Lucia

Thanks to all for the responses. I was planning on calling Monday, but please forgive me, I'm just a little confused? All of these different #'s for a 66 4sp speedo cable. Which # am I actually looking for now? Also, pardon my ignorance since this is the first time I've ordered resto parts from the Doc and I take it from earlier responses that Geoffrey was the chief there. Well anyhow, the cable that was sent to me was #9750124 which is not correct for my car. Also the package that the cable was enclosed in is ACDelco GM#88959478. What does this # translate to? Thanks again to all for your time. It is much appreciated. Rich Freeman

I'm still confused on how Geoffrey

knows this Doc Rebuild guy so well, but you never see them in the same place at the same time.

                        Geoffrey,

Sorry, I read your profile after I sent the last mess. I'm looking at your new catalog as I'm writing this and it shows 65-66 4sp cable #9750124 and it shows #9752124 as being for 69-77 4sp.
