    1960 Questions

I just purchased an accelerator return spring (with 1X4 amd automatic). After comparing it to the spring currently on my car, I understand why other restorers talk about the spring not being strong enough to bring the engine back to idle. The repro. spring is one inch longer (5-1/8") from tip to tip than my old spring (4-1/8"). I don't know for sure that my old spring is the original, but it always brings the engine back to idle. Is the longer spring correct, just weaker than the originals? Or is it incorrect? Anyone found a brand of paint with the "lime green" color?

Question: How is the kick panel windlace attached to the lower five inches of the kick panel? Glue? Can't use staples there because they will show. Does it drop straight down the side of the kick panel the last 5 inches?

    60 Carb spring

    Joe,
Mine is same length (from cc)and it works fine. I assume your front spring bracket is on therostat housing. I have a 4 speed, but I think they are the same.

      Re: 60 Carb spring

It is attached at the front now, but from 1989 (when I purchased the car) until 6 weeks ago, it was attached to the rear under a 9/16 bolt; screwed into the intake manifold. It works just fine like that, just not the correct way. I will try my new spring and see if it works properly.

I can't tell from your post if you are aware of the spring bracket that goes under
the thermostat housing. It also must be used on the correct housing.

The original accelerator return spring for your car was GM #3722020. It had a free length of 5-1/16" and 35 coils. It was color-coded light green.
