    '67 BRAKE CALIPERS WITH PISTON/O-RING

I am in the process of choosing a vendor to purchase rebuilt calipers from. I have found three that can provide me with correct casting#s. Two of them offer a system they refer to as "2000". They resleeve with stainless and use aluminum pistons with an o-ring. Does anyone have an opinion one way or the other on using this "new rebuild technique?"

    Rob----

I've not personally used the o-ring type pistons. However, I'm "sold" on them now. They've been around a long while, and I have not heard of a single problem related to them. I really think that they're the way to go. I didn't always think that way, though.

Rob - I went with VB and used their O-ring rebuild, based on Joe's comments. They are not yet installed, but I have no worries....and their work on the NCRS restoration was excellent....Craig

By the way, one other comment. VB let me send back the cores that were already sleeved by them years ago (they came on my car and were not leaking). Normally they only want unsleeved cores, but they made an exception since I was returning a fully functional set they produced. Thier regular process, like the originals were, is to face grind a flat on the outside of the casting and stamp their logo plus control numbers. One of my calipers had a 1974 stamp I believe they stamped on the casting, but not sure. Anyway, I beaded and stripped the calipers before shipment last week, and the sleeved bores were still in excellent shape, and I doubt this car has been treated to frequent fluid changes before I got it. Anyway, a testimony to the quality of their work, and the SS sleeving process. All I could see on the bores was minor color staining from the seal/piston contact, but no roughness or pitting. Hopefully they will give me the full refund my salesman promised, they say it is a 30 day process, but since these calipers are beaded and stripped I am hoping the give me better refund turnaround....Craig
