    C1 windshield post

I just won't to mention that I'v restored many C1's and never reinstalled the post bolts.
    1. if the posts are shimed right useing the rubber shims ,no need because the lower retainer nuts will hold fine.If the post lower tabs are not broken.
2.If by chance the body area is not level at the post or were the lower windshield retainer sits in is off, to much stress can cause the glass to brake or the post lower tabs.
    3. It is very important the the posts are shimed haveing no up and down play when the lower retainer is tight.

    Re: C1 windshield post

A quote I once read that was attributed to some high ranking GM official (I don't remember which one), was to the effect "Parts left off cost nothing and cause no service problems". Just food for thought. I heartly agree that the windshield needs to be properly shimed.

I just might take your advice

I haven't put my windshield back on the car yet, but when I look at the tight little space where I'd need to put the nut's onto the windshield post studs, I'm not optomistic. Leave 'em off? Mighty tempting!

If you do! how could some one know?? Remenber all the pressure from wind, hard top and soft top is to the rear. Unless your driving 90mph in reverse where could it go?? just shim it correctly.

            Roy,
Could you enlighten us on the three different type posts? I have a number of sets and was going to replate the cleanest ones for my 62 but now I'm curious about which ones might be correct or incorrect. Rich

mike! There are three types of door posts from 56 to 62.
56 is the first design, do to the fact that it dosen't use the filler stop at the top of the post with the door weather-striping.
Resulting in a physical shape difference at the top area.
57 to 60 second design now incorporates the filler stop with the door weather-striping at the top area.
56 to 60 post are also noticeable by having lines or grooves on the inside area where the rubber weather-striping is.
61-62 third design has been changed again do to the fact that the weather-striping HAS the filler for the top post area. And the inside post area now has no lines or grooves.
62 looking at it,at the top area is thinner then the 56 to 61, its all by it's self as is the 56.
Owner think they have the rigth post because all 56 to 62 share the same part number.
              #3754011=L/S and #3754012=R/S.
Any one else can jump in on this posting.
