Re: Windshield replacement for 1957
Roy is exactly right! that is how many of the windshield posts with broken tabs got that way. There were too many glass installers who were too lazy to remove the entire windshield. I talked to an old glass guy who bragged to me about how he could change a windshield without removing it from the car!

Re: Windshield replacement for 1957
The windshield assembly is relativly easy to remove from the car. Repalcing the glass is a whole new ballgame. If all youwant to do is remove the windshield for painting, there are very good instructions in the ST-12. You will need to remove the kick panels to access side fastners and probably remove the LH defroster duct. These steps are necessary on a 58-62, and I suspect the 57 is similar. The ST-12 says you have to remove the LH wiper transmission, but I never have had to on a late C1. The 57 could be different, never been under the dash in one. There are 12 total fastners, (4) 1/2" nuts, and (8) 3/8 or 7/16, can't remember which.- Top

Re: Windshield replacement for 1957
ST-12 is the '53-'62 Corvette Service Guide, available from the NCRS bookstore (on this website) or any of the usual parts vendors. It's a "must have."
Check the archives for loads of info on replacing the windshield. There have been numerous threads about it (including when I did mine) and even one in the last month or so. Also, e-mail me your mailing address and I'll send you an article from the June 2000 Vette magazine on the subject. I found it pretty useful.- Top

Re: Windshield replacement for 1957
As Mike Green points out, the ST-12 is a must have. Go no further until you have one in hand. There is also a book by Noland Adams which many think is a must. I have never seen one, but it is alleged to be the "Bible". There is also a book published by Clymer titled somethingh like "Corvette V8 Owner's Guide" It is out of print, but there was a copy on eBay a couple of days ago. I see them there every so often. It is an excellent publication and covers some of the areas that the ST-12 refers you to the 61 passsenger car manual. Also excellent section on fuel injection.- Top
