    65 leather seats

Who makes the best "original" leather seats and are they difficult to install?

    Re: 65 leather seats

Henry - I personally think Al Knoch has the best interiors including seats. I saw a set of 66 leather seats installed in Carlisle this year, and, they do flawless work. You should change the foam buns as well, and use his. Their labor is around $279 to install, and worth it if you don't want to take it on yourself. However, I have seen them install 3 sets of midyear seats, have their 65-67 installation video (well worth the $60 price, it is over 2 hours long). I am about to install my 66's saddle vinyl seats. FYI, tricks include proper t******* of the back in the area beyond the stitching, t******* the backs if you are installing new, and using a heat gun and dampening the leather to shrink out the wrinkes at the end. They do a first rate job....Craig

      Re: 65 leather seats-clarification

I realized my post was not clear on the t*******. What I meant is in the underside of each seat cover, where the panels are stitched together, you insert a wire to pull the cover down at the seam. They carefully trim the excess vinyl or leather PAST the seam, without going too far. This allows the bead to fully settle in the formed groove in the seat buns and seat back foam. With respect to t******* the seat back panels, they fit them against the seat back frames after the covering is complete, and trim so they fit correctly under the side chrome hockeysticks. Also, you may want to beat blast and clean the frames and check the springs carefully. My drivers seat had a broken spring, Al sells them, and I think I am going to replace the seat bottom springs (not backs) since they take the brunt of the punishment. I figure, if one let go, how far off are the others? And I don't want to do it again!...Craig

        Henry:

I agree with Craig. Al Knoch makes the best interior components---bar none. My advice is to replace all the z-zag springs on the driver's seat bottom (needed or not) as they are subject to fatigue.
I did my seats last July, using Al K black leather covers, etc, without the video, first time. THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL, and smell real nice, too! I've got no knocks.
