C1 Windshield Wiper Motors

Anybody have any experience refurbishing C1 windshield wiper motors?

Took it off the car today and brought it down the cellar. First thing I notice is the power lead has a break in the insulation right where it enters the case. It wasn't shorting because of the way the wire was bent, but that could have changed at any moment. I'm glad now I went to the trouble to look at this thing.

The motor doesn't need rebuilding. It works just fine. It needs cleaning, the power lead, and the switching mechanism inside is pretty gummed up. I'd like to take it completely apart so I can get at the power lead and soak the case in solvent.

I have rebuilt a couple of them. There is a pretty good guide in the ST-12 if memory serves me right. The brown wires are always breaking, and Lectric Limited does sell the wire with the right terminal on it. The toughest part in my opinion is holding the brushes back while sliding the armature back into the end housing. I don't know what the professionals use, but I found a long strip of masking tape will hold the brushes down while you slip it in and then you can pull the tape out. I neeeded to replate my case and had a real hard time finding a rivet that looked correct to re-attach the brush holder to the end case. I finally got some but had to buy a hundred of them, so if you are plating your case, drop me an Email and I will send you a few.
