C1 carpet installation

I am ready to install my new carpet in my 60. While vacuming out the floor I have found what looks like several tack heads sticking up out of the fiberglass floor around the transmission tunnel. What is this for? Was it part of the installation process of the original carpets. Should I just remove them or what?

The original carpet was secured to the floor in two, sometimes three places on each side of the tunnel at the toe pan with chrome phillips head screws with finishing washers driven through the floor; maybe what you see is the remnants of those screws, or "tacks" used instead in a previous carpet replacement.

I found several tacks when I removed the carpet in my 61'. Best guess is that previous owners hammer these in to hold down the carpet around the tunnel area as the carpet adhesive aged with time. If you look at the AIM, you will see the screws with washers and there locations can be found from the hole in the fiberglass, if they were missing.
