    Search function help

Maybe I am not doing something right, but I am trying to search the TDB posts only for "LT-1." When I perform this search it says, "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.". Now I can scroll the list of posts and see "LT-1" in titles, so I know there are matches.

Where am I going wrong here?

    Peter,

Recommend you read the FAQs on how to search, if you haven't. Lots of good tips in the Search FAQs on how to use the search variables.

      Re: Search function help

      Hi Gary,

I have read the FAQs on how to search and I do not see anything that addresses my problem.

Is the dash in LT-1 have a Boolean operator that I do not know of?

        Peter,

The below information from the FAQ's. Notice the LT1 search tips that work.

          Gary,

I understand that questions asked that may have already been answered in an FAQ tend to touch nerves with some people. By your multiple references to this search FAQ, I am seeing you may be one of them.

Unfortunately, that FAQ is really not addressing my question. It is recommending a method to expand my search.

My question: Why do I see no results when I search "LT-1" without quotes for posts only when I can scroll down the TDB and see specific posts with "LT-1" in the title?

Please let me know if my question is not clear.

            Peter,

Did you try LT1* or (LT1*) or any of the other variables beside LT-1.

If you do, you'll find most of the threads titles are LT1

I did not because the specific post I am looking for has LT-1 in the title.

I tried Gary, that did not work.

So here is the thread I was searching for: https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...using-the-LT-1

I could have searched for vacuum canister, or could have looked through Duke Williams' posts, but since I remember it was specifically about an LT-1 cam I thought that could be an easy search. Well, "LT-1 cam" didn't find anything, which I thought was odd so I pared it down to just "LT-1." I was a bit shocked that I got zero results for LT-1.

From research, it appears that the hyphen acts as the boolean operator NOT. No wonder my search was fruitless.

I do wish the NCRS TDB was google-able, I have had alot of success on other forums by typing in my search to google followed by the forum name. Plus, I think more traffic directed to the NCRS TDB would provide free advertising and possibly additional membership.
