Links to archived pictures?

What has happened to the links to photos in achived threads.

I been noticing lately that when you search the archived threads, the photos in those archived threads seem to be gone.

Just yesterday I reposted two pictures in a thread requesting pictures which were missing in the archived thread. I then looked in my attachments around the date of the original posting, and the photos were still there, next to the link to the thread in which they were posted. Clicking on the link the thread comes up but the photos are no longer linked to that thread.

Something appears to be wrong in the archives as the links to the photos appear to be gone.

I know that this thread will probably be shifted to the help section, but I wanted to make the administrators aware that there appears to be something wrong in the archived thread links.

I can't speak for all of the missing picture cases, but I can tell you I have removed/deleted a number of the pictures I posted...

Why? Well early on there was a limit on file storage size by user/poster that was reasonably 'tight'. To upload picture(s) to speak to a current thread, I removed pictures posted against prior/older threads.

Then, there was an 'episode' not too long ago, where I bumped up against the same 'wall' even though the site storage limit size had been greatly increased. Without checking website status, I went and deleted MANY more pictures to gain space to post my new target picture.

Later, in chatting with Rob Musquetier, he mentioned recollecting that the website had been under maintenance/improvement at the time and I might have encountered a 'temporary' size limit.

But, for whatever reason, the pictures deleted were just that...goners!

Jerry, are the missing photos that you've posted previously posted directly into the TDB or on a photo service site such as photobucket? Gary....

They were originally posted to an outside site on the old forum. But when we switched over to the new, all of the outside photos were imported into the NCRS site and now have NCRS links. The photos still appear in my attachments with an NCRS link.

It looks to me that the archived thread has lost the link to the photo.

Jerry, John Waggoner spent alot of time importing the archived photos from the photo service sites. This was done by using the poster's e-mail address. If the e-mail address was not current the photos did not get imported and thus links were broken. That's one of the reasons we ask that photos be posted directly into the TDB thread/post and not though an external photo site such as photobucket. If the photos are posted in the TDB, the photos are retained. Gary....

Oh I see it now. If the photos were originally posted from an image site prior to the switchover to the NCRS forum change, the photo's were preserved but not the links in the threads.

I have all my posted photo's preserved in my User Profile Attachments back to 2004, but none of the posts containing photos prior to March 2008 show the photos.

I just recently noticed this, in going back through posts prior to March 2008. No one's posted photos appear in the archived threads prior to the switchover, around that time.

From your attachments, you can go to the thread but the attachment does not appear. From the thread you can't go to the photo.

What a shame, somewhat makes older threads not very useful. But I guess that's the way it is.
