What happened to the pictures in old Threads? Will it happen to pics in new Threads?

I find a lot of references to pictures in the archives, but the pictures are no longer attached. For me, a picture is often worth a lot more than a thousand words

I'm guessing those pictures are all gone. Will the same eventually happen to pictures in current Threads, or are the missing pictures from old Threads the result of something that won't happen again?

Scott, the photos that are not shown were posted in a photo hosting service such as photobucket, etc. When a photobucket subscriber posts a photo in the TDB it only remains as long as the poster leaves it there and the URL link stays intact. When the TDB was upgraded in 2008 John Waggoner spent lots of long hours trying to import those photos where the URL links were still valid.

That's why we encourage all members to post their photos in the TDB directly using the "manage attachments" feature. The photos posted directly in the TDB are retained for the duration. Unfortunately, some posters still chose to host their photos elsewhere.

Great question and answer. I have often wondered the same thing. I thought I was doing something wrong when I couldn't view old photos. Thanks for the explanation. Tim

I use Photobucket and have an account that costs a whopping $2.25 per month for unlimited space and no advertising. I use it often to post on the TDB, but, I do understand the concern about using outside sites. There are aspects of both I like and dislike.
