NCRS Corvette Restorers CD

This isn't really a technical question on restoration of a Corvette so I thought to put it here.
I recently received my "The Corvette Restorer" cd and when putting it in my cd drive it takes FOREVER to come to life on my screen. I'm talking "go to lunch and come back" FOREVER! Once it comes to life it works fine.
My questions are:
Is this normal?
and
Can I load it to my hard drive and run it from there to speed up the initial load?
