    Restorer Index

A month, or so, ago I had found a link to an on-line Restorer Article Index -- now I cannot find it. And, instructions found in archive posts don't seem to lead me to an index. Can you point out where I can find the index -- or, has it been removed for some reason?
    Thanks,
    Ron

    Re: Restorer Index

    Ronald,

I delete the link to the index since it was so out date as to be embarrassing. We have been so busy with all of the new features that we had neglected the index. It was really seldom used and took a lot of effort to maintain.

It does still exist since all I did was delete the link.

https://www.ncrs.org/articleindexFra...earchform.html The newest articles on it were from 2003.

If there is enough interest and someone would be willing to take responsibility to enter the information for all issues since 2003 I could turn it back on.

Thanks John, that was a big help.

How would one - remotely - update your database for the articles since 2003? I believe I have all the Restorer issues but I'd have to check.

        Re: Restorer Index

I already have the contents pages in electronic format for the issues when I was editor, but I am not so sure that goes much beyond 2005 or 2006. So if someone wants to go forward with that I can make the contents pages into MS Word document -- I think.

U have another job for Gary Chesnut to get out of the way and then I could do my part of this if someone wants to pick up the rest.

          Terry:
I have every Restorer since I joined in 1987 so I would take on the job of updating the index but I have no idea where to start. If I could get the latest update in electronic form (Word or Excel) and some guidance as how to categorize the articles I would be happy to try. Let me know how I can help.

            Re: Restorer Index

            Hi Jeff,
I have the 2 indexes that have been done to this point, (that I'm aware of) Vol 1 through Vol 18 (1974-1992), done by Deane Parker, and Vol 1 through Vol 25, #1 (1974 -#1 1998). I could send these to you so you can see the format that was used if you undertake furthering the indexes.
I, too, offer any help I can to bring the index up to date. I use the indexes often for my own interest and also to look for info for members on the Board who don't have the indexes or the earliest issues of THE RESTORER.
Again, I'd be glad to help.
            Regards,
            Alan

              Alan;
Can you send me the indexes via email? Are they in electronic form or would you be scanning in hard copies? I do have the first index published by Deane Parker, Volume 1 through Volume 18, 1974-1992 in hard copy. Anyway, send me what you have and I will see how to proceed.

                Re: Restorer Index

I appreciate all of the interest in doing the data entry for the Restorer Index. I would rather wait until we can develop the database properly. We can then import what we currently have, and then update from there. It may take at least a couple of months before we can devote much time to the development but I think it is worth the effort if there is this much interest in it.

                  Hi Jeff,
The indexes are both hard copies at this point.
I'll wait to see what John determines might be a good way to proceed with this project before I do anything else. There is SO MUCH good information in the early THE RESTORER issues, both technical and human interest, I think many newer members would find it useful and amusing if they knew what was in those issues.
If you'd like a hard copy of the second index for your use let me know and I'll make a copy and mail it to you.
Again, when this project moves forward I'd be pleased to help in any way I can.
                  Regards,
                  Alan

                    Alan:
If it's not too much trouble, I would like a copy of the one that goes through 1998. I am going to do an index for my own use from 1998 to the present. I would be happy to share it with anyone who wants it when I'm done. I intend to do it in Word so it could be updated every quarter with each new issue. John- If you could use it for the entire club you are more than welcome. If you want to approach this at a later date in a different manner that's fine too.

                      Hi Jeff,
It will be easiest and quickest for me to make a hard copy and mail it to you. If you send me your address I'll get busy!

                        Re: Restorer Index

I have the electronic versions of The Restorers that I edited -- 1999 to 2004?. That includes the table of contents, but that is a long way from an Index. They are in PageMaker, but I believe the contents pages can be easily turned into MS Word documents. Developing an index is not so easy, and is a skill few have, but if the file was searchable electronically the quality of the index might be less troublesome.

                          Alan,
I received the copy of the index today. Thank you very much! What you sent me is a combination of the first one done in 1992 and articles published from then to 1998. I am just going from 1998 to the present. The format is more like the first and I am breaking the headings down further so it might be easier to find what you want. I will send the first draft to you as soon as I'm done for your comments.

Gary, The CD/ROM does not have ALL of The Restorer contents on it. The regular articles (President and Judging Chairman) are nto included, nor are the articles about meets, or more recently the financial statements. Most, but not all, technical articles ARE on it.
