Searching archives for all posts by a certain individual.

My new User Name on this Board is different from the User Name I used on the old Board. When I search using the New User Name....nothing comes up. When using the Old User Name only 20 posts come up when there should be hundreds. How do I bring up all my posts in the archives?? Thanks.

    Hi Rick,

Search in the Technical Discussion Board Archives instead of the NCRS Technical Discussion Board forum. For the archives put your name not in the user name field but in the Key Word(s) field.

    greetings,
    Rob.

      Richard,

I just added several items to the FAQ about Search. Read the FAQ from cover to cover when you get a chance. Should only take 10 minutes.

To answer your question I did a little experimentation. First when you go to the Search in the menu drop down and select Advance Search from the bottom of the drop down window that opens. That opens up a lot of possibilities to narrow your searches. I tried several and found this.

It appears that the Search Feature doesn't search the User Name field in the Archives, since it is not actually related to User Names from this forum. If you search on your name, you will find posts where you were mentioned in the Body of the post, but not in the User Name section.

Sorry it doesn't do that, but you loose a little when you do the import as was necessary here. Good news is that if you can remember what the message you are looking for was about you should be able to drill down and find it.

        John,

In my case, that's not "good news"......but thanks anyway.

Sorry Rob, but that does not work. Only 23 posts come up when there should be hundreds.....and that's where I was searching. Hope there is an answer somewhere....thanks for trying.

Ok, I'll ivestigate a bit more to see what we can do to solve this more structually. I'll come back on this in a week or so...

            greetings,

              Rick,

I've made a solution to retro fit the new user names for the archives (at least for those users currently registered which still have the same email address as they had on the old forum).

We just need to wait a bit till things have eased down before I will deploy this because this needs thorough testing (before I mess up the complete archive).

              greetings,
              Rob.

                  Richard and others,

I've made and tested a small script updating all old user names of users which have already initiated their accounts on the new TDB. Later today I'll run the script resulting in the archive posts also be searchable by user name.

                  greetings,

Ok, all user names in the archives are updated (959 of 1184 users were identified).

                    Greetings,
                    Rob.

                      That works slick, Rob

Tested out the advanced search of the archives under my name for threads started. It listed every one back to my very first thread start post in 2004, all 253 of them. Tried the same for Joe Lucia and his went back to 1998.

Love that dropdown on the member names.

Realized that you can only go back 500 posts under a post search but that's OK with me.

Great job on this fine tuning.
