    Origin of info in 1973-1974 Jdging manual, 2nd edition

    Hi all;

    I am working with Tom Russo and team on the next revision of the 1973-1974 NCRS Judging Manual. I sent private messages to all of the members that I could, but some of you have elected not to receive PMs, or are unable to receive PMs. So let me as here as well.

    A question has come up about a statement that was put into the 2nd edition (wasn't in the 1st edition) about 1973 gas door lids and emblems. The statement is:

    Gas Door Lid & Bezel
    The gas door lid is body colored with a crossed emblem in most of 1973. In later 1973
    and all of 1974, there is not emblem (Italics added by me).

    I am trying to track down the origin of this statement that some late 1973 Corvettes did not have a gas door emblem. Can any of you point me at where this information came from.

    I am aware of car number 33737 (727th car from the end) which still has original paint and a no hit body. It has an emblem. I am also aware of car number 34456 (8th from the last, a Bloomington Gold car) and 34461 (3rd from the last, an original restored car) that both have gas door emblems.

    I am attempting to contact the owners of 34456 and 34461 to see how original the cars are.

    If any of you can shed any light on where this statement originated, please email me directly at emccomas57@gmail.com.

    Thanks so much for your help on this, and for all that you do for NCRS.

      I'm also on the 73-74 Revision Team. I know Ralph and I've contacted him numerous times about various parts on the 73. His car is an April 2, 73 build, so it will definitely have the crossed flags on the gas door. I have an April 30th car with the flags present. BTW, Ralph is always willing to answer any questions about the 73. I often wondered myself why that statement was in the 2nd edition JG.
      Ed- It would really be nice to see some pics of that barn find!

        I suspect the reason for that JM entry passed with Ken Sleeper.

          I / we are not opposed to keeping this statement in the judging manual if we can find any evidence to verify the information.

          As I stated earlier, 33737 is an original paint (727nd from the last car) and it has an emblem. 34456 and 34461 are both restored cars and they both have emblems.

          I have also looked the AIMs for 1973 and 1974, and there is nothing to indicated a change of this nature.

          I am gathering all of the data I can locate on this issue; and will provide that data to the revision team leader, Tom Russo. Ultimately, it will be his call.

            my question would be to the owners of 34456 and 34461 - were emblems present BEFORE restoration? And, do they have documentation, in other words do they have pictures to validate one way or the other.......
