    New Here

Hi, my name is Mark, and I just signed up yesterday. I've always wanted a mid year coupe, and I found one last November, went to see it on December 21, 2014, and bought it that day, finishing up the transfer in January. It is still in storage there, and it's driving me nuts not to have it here to drool over and work on, but it's just hasn't been a good time for me to got get it, nor has the weather cooperated. Being my car was probably the least valuable car in this storage facility, (Lambos, Ferraris, a Hemi Super Bee, aRolls or 2, a couple of GT 40s and a 63 SWC, and a 67 Roadster, just to name a few, so I'm not worried about it that way. I belong to a bunch of Corvette, Victory and Harley forums, and I find this one difficult to figure out so far. It seems it's not allowed to ask about your VIN, or am I just not getting the rules?

    Mark,
First and foremost, welcome to the NCRS and this forum. I'm not completely clear on your question. Are you wondering if you can ask about someone else's VIN or posting your own VIN? All questions are typically welcomed and will come with an amazing amount of knowledgeable answers.

      Re: New Here

      Hello Mark
welcome aboard as Leif already said. We're glad to have you in the club. Yes, our Technical Discussion board is different than some other general discussion forums you find for corvettes elsewhere on the web. We try as much as reasonably possible to limit questions on the Tech Board to just that, tech questions about vettes. I am not sure what your question about your VIN would be, but if it is technical, throw it out on the board. If it is somehow related to provenance information, we have a Dealer Search Information forum that you can use to seek information on where your car may have first been sold. Note that you can purchase a report that will list the first dealer that received your car from the factory when new by going to the tool bar above and clicking on Services, then Historical Document Services in the drop down list. Then Shipping Data Report.
I would also suggest that you look into joining one of the very dynamic chapters in the Northeast / New England area. You have many very enthusiastic chapter members living near you who will help you with any questions you might have about your car. You can find these chapters under Contacts also in the tool bar above.
Do not hesitate to post here again if you have more questions or else write me directly at
      dgh50@att.net
good luck with your new 65 coupe.
      Don

        Re: New Here

Hi Don and Leif, Thank you for your welcoming, and responding to my post. I ordered the dealer delivery info immediately upon joining, as I am dying to know more about my car. I do not have any old documentation that I can use for the Historical Doc Services.
So, I'm sorry my question was vague, but I will try to be more specific this time. What I was trying to ask is can you post your VIN anywhere on the NCRS where people could see it, and respond if they know first, was this car ever registered with the NCRS before, (does it exist somehow in the data base, because a former owner joined NCRS too)?, second, Can I ask if anyone has any of the serial numbered parts for the car, ie engine block or transmission? I did get a ton of receipts with the car, with peoples names on them, and one guy in particular, Thomas Hanley of Oswego, NY, did the majority of the buying of parts to restore the car. I tried the phone number on the receipt, but it is no longer in service.

Here's what I do know from the receipts. There were four owners before me, the guy I bought it from in Canada, who owned it from 2012 through January 2015, the guy he bought it from in New York, roughly 2004 through 2012, after he moved it back from California, (I have a title from California, registered to his name, with a paid off lien from GE, showing he owned it in California for about 6 years, then moved back to New York, where he registered it for a couple of years in NY, then sold it to the guy in Canada in 2012. Prior to that I can only assume from the receipts, that Thomas Hanley owned it for quite a while, maybe 199? to 2003-4. How it got from New York, to California, and then back I don't know, but the following is my theory. I was able to determine the fellow from California was from the same general Rochester area of New York originally, and still has/had family there, so maybe he bought it from Hanley in NY, then moved to California for awhile, then moved back. The fact that he had a lien on the car means to me it was already restored, and he paid quite a bit for it. This jives with all the receipts as well. The fourth owner is the weird one, there are two receipts for a fellow who lived in Washington state in the 80's !! So once I get my dealer selling report, it will be interesting to see where the car originated from.

Here's the funny thing about ME ! I swore I wouldn't do this again, and purposely bought a non original numbers matching car. THe reason for this was two fold, I've always wanted a mid year coupe, and I didn't want to spend a fortune to buy one, because I didn't want to give up my other toys, and two, I didn't want to worry about every little nut and bolt, and my throttle return spring is the wrong color, etc, etc, etc like I did when I restored my numbers matching 69 tri power vert, which I documented, and restored as best as I could myself over 23 years of ownership. I hated the insults I used to get from the know it alls at Corvette events that I brought it to over the years. It was never good enough for them. Well it was good enough for me and the guy who bought it in 2000. It was my first Vette, and it was very rough when I bought it, with studded snow tires on the back, you can imagine what a New England car driven in the salt was like. BUT, it was numbers matching! When I finished the car it was beautiful, and fetched a very nice number, my full asking price when I sold it. Anyway, I digress.
Back to my current love affair. This car was perfect for me, because it was a non numbers matching engine and tranny, so no pretense of originality, and a non matching color as well. My car is supposed to be Nassau Blue, with a Nassau Blue and White interior. Well the interior is correct, but the outside is Daytona Blue, which I really prefer, even though I like Nassau Blue, so I'm good with that. It also has my favorite mid year hood, the 67 big block. Otherwise, it appears very much like an original car, but with all of the receipts I have, and the gorgeous condition of it, I know it's not at all original from the survivor point of view, or any other.

I blabbed enough, sorry for the long winded explanation. I'll add a pic or two.DSC05531_zps9171a991.jpgDSC05530_zpsac9d9f65.jpgDSC05532_zps7d7fd3f5.jpg

I agree, your 65 is a gem. The answer is no, there is no place on the Tech Board to post your VIN to ask for help with historical information. But you can list your car in C2Registry.org and that will put your VIN on the net for others to find, along with your contact information. Also, you can post a free ad in the Driveline magazine asking for historical information. Also Mr Bill Gould of Auto Ancestry.com is an auto provenance private eye who is a NCRS member and Driveline advertiser. He has been successful in sleuthing out historical info like you want. Write me directly if you need more help. Happy corvetting again, once your snow ever melts!
