confused about Document Validation Service

I have a simple question about this service. If I have documentation on my corvette, tank sticker (ONLY) can my car be 100% validated as being original to that tank sticker?

Also what about those people that have absolutely NO documentation? Can they request validation of some type for their corvette?

Dale, The short answer is yes. Many members have confirmed the validity of their tank sheet based on the information in the shipping data records. If the owner has no documentation then they can request the shipping information and will receive the dealer code, name and the date the vehicle was built.

On the other hand, only the paperwork is validated as being genuine and original- not the car itself. Beyond VIN tags and trim tags, I don't know of any validation service offered by NCRS for the cars themselves.

so basically if I have a tank sticker (ONLY) (which we all know really doesn'y have the VIN) at least I can get that tank sticker vaildated as being to that car. I still could have a made up big block.

However, If I have nothing but the car I have no method of proving it is a big block, can prove where it was deleivered to but nothing more, Is that about correct

Two things here:
Document Validation: Basically you are correct, if you have a purported GM document - order copy, car shipper, wholesale invoice, retail invoice, MSO, other, etc. any document produced by GM specifically for a vehicle. NCRS can validate or reject the document as being GM issued for that VIN.

That does not validate the vehicle in any shape form or fashion; it simply says this document goes with this VIN according to GM records. The original zone and dealer number are not items used in this determination. Also this is a non-subjective decision as we do not look at font, paper, glue, perforations, etc. Decision is made from string identifiers unique to the vehicle and documentation.
Shipping Data Report: supplies production date, original dealer number and zone where the vehicle was billed.

If no documents exist we cannot do a document validation, we could however provide a shipping data report.

this all assumes your car is not one of the 3% or so we are missing data on, due to damaged or missing microfiche.

Thanks Roy. We don't validate dealer sales invoices, do we? Since it's not a GM produced document, I would think not, but I thought I'd ask.

Your best bet there would be to do a Shipping Data Report and use the results from it to confirm a dealer sales invoice; this assumes your car was not dealer traded.

The down side of this is if we have previously issued this information for a car, a counterfeit dealer sales invoice could have been fabricated and exist, so as a potential purchaser of a vehicle it is advisable for you to order the SDR if a dealer sales invoice exists, the upside is we know if previous reports have been issued.

I did order the SDR as soon as it was available, and it confirmed that my car was shipped to the dealer on the sales invoice. Also, I posted the sales invoice in a few discussion threads here, and sent copies to a few of the more respected members of NCRS for various reasons, long before the information on the SDR's was available, for what it might be worth in the future.

This is a very good thread of Q & A. Someone recently told me that the shipping data report verified that the car (mid year) was an orginal big block of xyz HP, but I did not
think that the shipping data report has been recently 'enhanced' to give the data of all the options, engine cubic inch / HP , color, etc. Again, buyer beware prevails...
