Scott, I am not near San Antonio but if you or someone else is public libraries usually have telephone directories and business directories dating back many decades. These should have info. as to name, address, tel #, owner, etc.

I recently took a trip to Wenatchee, WA, to find out more info about my car. The library had everything, from business directories for every year that went back to the nineteen - teens, to old newspapers on microfiche (that you could print desired articles/ads and so forth on the printer hooked up to the microfiche. It was great. I found out a lot of info in an hour's time.

My 1970 Corvette was purchased new at a Chevrolet dealership in San Antonio. That much I learned and I even spoke to the first owner by telephone. But the guy admitted he partied quite a bit back in the day and couldn't recall the name of the dealership. He couldn't even recall the color of the car! He did recall that it burned a lot of rubber in parking lots and eventually VWs could pass it on the San Antonio freeways.
I'm guessing there might have been no more than three Chevrolet dealerships back in 1970. I was hoping that a San Antonio native and NCRS member might recall something.

Mission Chevrolet 1200 SE Military Dr
Smith Chevrolet 1221 Broadway
Tom Benson Chevrolet 9400 San Pedro

These were the same dealers when I lived there in 1978

I can also give you the listings for the dealers just outside San Antonio if you need them.

Wow, Jay.....thanks! I had heard about Mission Chevrolet and Smith but not Benson. Now somehow I need to figure out which one sold the car new.

How does that work? I tried several times to enter as much information that I knew and nothing happens on that 'Check Dealer Code Database'. Plus when I started the post I entered it on the Technical Discussion Board and somehow it defaulted to 'Dealer Information Searches' but I can't find that subtitle under Technical Discussion Boards like Home, Membership Card, NCRS Archives, etc. So if I need to find my post or thread I can only find it via the links provided in replies to my emails.

In researching the history of a 65 Corvette from San Antonio for a client I found Smith Motors which became Freedom Chevrolet. I also found Newt Godfree Chevrolet established in 1954 at 437 North Flores San Antonio. I do not know when they closed or if they were open when your car was sold. Bill Gould Auto Ancestry

Thanks, Bill. I paid $40 (more) to the NCRS in hopes that I will get more information than I can get on my own. It might lead to the dealership that sold the car. The original owner can't recall which one he bought it from.
