    Re: where to now??

I could not dig up any records on these guys. My friends in the Chevelle world had a record though. Zone 32 and Dealer 606 was indeed Saltz Chevrolet. Looks like the address was 142 Canal St. Salem, Mass 01971. That's all I have to this point.

Google the address and you can see the current location.

I believe that Saltz was in business until fairly recently---maybe about 5 years ago, or so. It seems like I've driven by there when I've been in the area just about at least once in the last many years. Hillcrest closed down more recently---maybe 2 or 3 years ago, maximum. I believe they were a victim of the GM dealer "thinning out" process. They were located on Highland Avenue in Salem, just over the Lynn city limits and about 5 miles from where I was born.

One thing to keep in mind, though, and it's been mentioned many times before. Even if one finds the original dealership their car was originally ordered/sold from and even if the dealer is still in business and even if it's still owned and operated by the same owners as 40+ years ago, the chances of obtaining any more information are "microscopic". Dealers just don't keep paperwork around that long. If the information had been stored electronically, there might be a chance it would still be available. However, in those days just about all dealer records were paper only. How much of your own personal paperwork do you still have from 40+ years ago?

              Re: where to now??

I got a little frustrated that I couldn't find anything on these guys in the Mass records, so I kept poking around and came up with a bit more.

It appears they began in January of 1962 as Saltz Chevrolet. They changed their name to Saltz Inc in 1978.

It appears they disolved in March of 1984.

I can't find anything with any of the owners on it. I will keep trying !!
