I've been anxiously awaiting the shipping data report for my 68 conv. VIN #194678S411124 and it says Dealer 0 in zone 41. What does dealer 0 mean. I can't find a dealer 0. The name and address is Chevrolet Wichita Zone, Wichita, KS Please help! Thanks, Scott

Re: Dealer code 0 zone 41?
Some cars were ordered and delivered to the various zone offices for use by zone managers. They were referred to as "brass hat" cars back in that day (as I understand, they are now called "program" cars). A "brass hat" was used by a zone manager for about three months or 3000 miles, and then it was turned over to a dealer to sell. Since a zone manager (brass hat) car was initially titled and licensed to (and therefore owned by) the Chevrolet Division of General Motors, it was considered a used car when a dealer got it. Dealers liked getting "brass hat" cars because the mark-up wasn't nearly as much as a brand new car. A dealer could make pretty good money on a "brass hat" and a buyer could get a pretty good deal that included a warranty, even though the car was considered "used". One thing I haven't been able to determine as of yet - did the first private owner of a "brass hat" get a p-o-p or not? I'm guessing not since the car was considered used. But I don't know for sure.

Re: Dealer code 0 zone 20
Likewise, my 70 convt was delivered to the Los Angelos Zone Office and i have no Protecto Plate but have a tank sticker. The car is a base HP but has just about every other option you could order. I would like to know if anyone else with "zone cars" has protecto plates? As previously stated, if they were sold as "used" good chance the PP didn't come from the selling dealer...
I will be flighting at an upcoming Regional and would be nice to understand the PP issue with zone cars??

Re: Dealer code 0 zone 20
Brady,
I can not tell you about PoP with Zone cars, but I can tell you about PoP with Corvettes sold as used cars while the warranty was still in force.
The second PoP did not have embossed vehicle data, like the first. It had the VIN embossed in the metal and the name and address of the second owner on plastic tape all in the usual reverse lettering. That is all that is on it.
I can not imagine why there would not be a warranty with a zone car if it was sold for retail sale while the factory warranty was still in effect. That would, after all, be a positive selling point.Terry- Top
