Hey Mark !

I can't get you any specific names for contacts, but I was able to determine that Ames started November the 19th of 1947.

It looks like the address was 151 main St. in Cortland, New York 13045. Google Earth shows a building still there. Might still be the old place.

Check out the historical society there, they claim to have old business photos !!!

I wonder if I could ask if you might be able to dig up another small puzzle piece for me. To your knowledge, was there ever a dealer named Ames Chevrolet in Ames, Iowa?

Here's why I'm asking this particular question. I've been able to confirm through Virginia DMV that my car was titled in Virginia from 1967 to 1993. Virginia also confirmed that the car entered Virginia in 1967 from Iowa. I know Ames is a relatively major city/town in Iowa, and it just seems a HUGE coincidence that the shipping data report would state that my car was delivered to Ames Chevrolet in Cortland, NY (dealer code 19, zone 48), and VA DMV shows the car came from Iowa, with Ames being a major town in that state. With the info I got from VA DMV, it would make more sense if the car had been delivered to an "Ames Chevrolet" in Ames, Iowa. Of coursse, this could just be a coincidence, but it's worth investigating.
Any info you might have would be greatly apprreciated. thanks in advance.

Hi, Tom --

please ignore my last request concerning a dealership in Ames, IA. I did some searching, and it doesn't appear that there was a Chevy dealer in Ames, IA, at least not in any of the locator databases I was able to find. It looks like truth is indeed stranger than fiction, and my car did start out in NY and over 3 short years cruised through Iowa and into Virginia (sheesh...where HASN'T this car been??).

The address I was able to find for Ames Chevrolet In Cortland, NY was 3901 West Road (Route 281), and it *appears* to have now become Royal Chevrolet/Buick/GMC/Subaru, in case any others might be looking for info on this dealer. Will call them tomorrow to see if they have any old paperwork stashed away...
