    Oregon Title Search-Records still available

Oregon still has old records filed away and will do a search if requested to do so.

I received a complete history on my 67 INCLUDING a copy of the original California title when the owner moved to Oregon in 1969. All titles, transfer paperwork, mileage staements, a death certificate, liens, etc. As per law they redacted all the names.

I was able to fill in the blanks later. If you are lucky enough to have a car with history in this state, I would run a records check before they dump their old records like so many states have already done.

      Hi Mark:

Here's a link to print the request

      http://www.odot.state.or.us/forms/dmv/49.pdf

It is $22.50 and you just need to put the vin and it would be helpful to put the title info on there as well.

Make sure you also put on there a request to search the purged records for information. This is likely where the information will be.

Let me know how it turns out!! I have some other ideas once you get the information.

      Bob

Re: Oregon Title Search-Records still available

I did this through Salem in 1999 and it was $22.50 then! No wonder our state is in such a budget mess.

Seriously, you may be surprised at how much information you do get...I received a 1/4" thick set of copies, many of which they had forgotten to use the white-out tape to cover the names and addresses. On other copies that were two sided, the original information from the front side was readable in a mirror when looking at the second page copy.

I was given a copy of the original California "pink slip" and OR vehicle inspection that showed the original owner's name and address and I was able to eventually make contact with him. At a minimum you'll get the dates of transactions and odometer readings. Good luck in your search!

          Greg:

I got a booklet 1/2" thick, no joke! I was shocked at all the detail pages in addition to the titles, etc.

I ordered a Oregon Title Search today for my '66 which was, as I've been told, sold by its original owner there in 1989. W

              Ted:

Hopefully you stated to search purged records so they will go back in the archives. If they come back with nothing, resubmit it. They have incredible detail.

Thanks Bob, your input is sincerely appreciated. I did specify checking the purged records so hopefully it will go well. I'll let you know, thanks again.

                  Ted,
Did you receive any information back from the Oregon DMV? I am about to do the same as my '66 originally came from Oregon. Thanks

My 66 was delivered to Edmark Chevrolet in Nampa ID which is a family owned dealership that is still in operation today. ID dmv told me they had no info on it so I called Oregon dmv and they said they do have a record of my vin and that I needed to fill out a form number 7122 request for information and send in the $22.20 I did this about ten days ago but haven't heard back yet. I didn't write on there to search archives. We will see what happens.

I wonder how they do this due to the Federal Privacy Act? Glad they are doing it though!

                        Hi Gary,

Yes I did hear back from the Oregon DMV and fairly quickly and very professionally done. No names of course because of privacy laws but dates and locations of transfers so I know more than I did. Wasn't what I expected to find in terms of the number of owners but it does give me more to go on. Some of the copies were hard to read because of the age of the documents but that's to be expected. I thought they did a HECK of a job. Good luck with your search!

Just to give everyone a timeline, I sent my request into the Oregon DOT Driver and Motor Vehicles Services on May 14th and I got the reply back today (May 26th) for my '68 4-4-2 Olds convertible. I surely wish every state had this kind of service because the info they sent me told me everything I needed (and wanted) to know. For $22.50, they filled in what my car was for its first 11 months before my dad bought it. And it was kind of funny because the paperwork is in there when my parents bought the car but their names and address are blanked out. They didn't blank out the birthdates of the buyers, though, and they are the birthdates of my parents! Pretty neat!
