My car was delivered to Scarborough Chevrolet in Statesville, NC. The dealership is still in existence albeit under a different name and different ownership. I contacted two different people at the dealership. One said he would help and didn't and the other did get back to me with the bad news. The good news is the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles. Nice phone representative, low cost, professional results. I received the ownership history on my car from the MSO to the first five owners including photocopies of all titles....front and back. If your car has history in North Carolina you are in luck.

Would you mind sharing the phone number of the North Carolina DMV representative you talked to. Did they handle your request over the phone? I have a 72 Coupe that was registered in N.C. and originally delivered to Harrell Chevrolet in Emporia, Virginia only 180 miles away from the person I purchased the car from 30 years ago in Newport, N.C..
I know N.C. has one of the best record retention policies back many years. I did make a formal request for prior owners many years ago and they said they couldn't find my Vin #
