The data report for my 66 Roadster came back as Dealer 1, Zone 21 showing it to be an Export. No Dealer name and address on the data report. I am told that 21/001 is GM Continental in Rotterdam, Netherlands. After checking the Dealer Code Database I see know mention of this and it seems as though all exports were Dealer 1, Zone 21 no matter where they were ordered from or where they were going. Looks like the car would be ordered then sent to a Dealership somewhere near St Louis or go to one of the warehouses. I also assume a car could be ordered out of the Country but never leave the States. I say this because my car has a long history in New York and appears to have never been shipped out of the country. Could this be a Canada car and how would I go about checking that? Any help with any part of this post would be appreciated. 40.00 well spent by the way!

Dealer code 0, Zone 21 is the typical code for cars exported and sold in Canada.
GM Canada has the build records for cars sold there. You can get info at www.vintagevehicleservices.com .

Scott,
If you think the $40 was well spent already wait until you see what another $40 or so will get you if your car was delivered in Canada. When you go to that website click on the "Option Info" tab and at the bottom is a sample of the option sheet you will receive from GM Canada.

Re: Data showed my car as an export
Agree! IF your car was a Canadian export, you're going to jump for joy with the confirming data you can get from GM Canada.
But, before you celebrate too much, remember those who were in the military and bought 'baby' to use on-base (Hawaii, Etc.) were also classified as 'export' sales. If that's the case, you might wind up in the same place as others who've found their original receiving dealerships -- between a rock and a hard place...- Top

Re: Data showed my car as an export
Does your car has the export tag? Does it has a speedo meter showing km instead of miles?
It might have been exported to europe for military personel and then returned to the US when the person returned from his duty...Rob.

Re: Data showed my car as an export
Agree with Rob that if it does not have the additional tag affixed to the inner fender or cowl, it might be a car sold under the military sales program.
There have been two well documented articles in the Restorer about Corvettes ordered under the military sales program. The Spring 2009 issue is about a 1967 with zone 21 and dealer 001, and the Spring 2001 issue is about a 1972 with zone 79 and dealer 899.
Military sales and export cars were administered by General Motors Overseas Distributors Corporation, New York. It appears they changed from zone 21 to zone 79 starting in 1969.
I have a 1968 that was exported to General Motors Continental Antwerp. This car has zone 21 and dealer 002. More information is available at: http://www.c3registry.org/index.php?...te&car_id=2268

Re: Data showed my car as an export
My car shows no signs of ever having other tags attached in the engine compartment and the normal two under the glove box have been verified as original. Dash cluster has a date of ten days before the build date and the speedo showed no signs of being replaced. If the car went to Canada would it have these extra tags as well? Of course I'll check if the car went up to Canada but I have a feeling that it was ordered out of the Country but never left and was picked up when that person got back. Probably a Military person.- Top

Re: Data showed my car as an export
Since the car is a 66 if it was delivered in Canada it would have had the "Normal" MPH speedo. Can't remember exactly what year but it was not until around 77 or 78 that Canadian cars were equipped with metric speedos.Golf is for those who can't play hockey.- Top

Re: Data showed my car as an export
Just found out through Vintage Vehicles that my car was not exported to Canada. It was worth a try. I read the article in the Spring 2009 issue of The Restorer and feel as though this car was export ordered in the same manner. Through the military program. Got no dealer that the car was sent to after being built so I guess I have hit the old brick wall!- Top
