McMahan Chevrolet, Lafayette CO. Zone 10 Dealer 552.

Looking for info on this dealer. My car was delivered to the original owner there in late July 1963. I've contacted the Lafayette City Library and Chamber of Commerce. Patty at the city library is looking through what she might have.

Chamber of Commerce "thought" the dealership was bought out by Century Chevrolet in Broomsfield, but not sure if or when that might of occured.

Appreciate any help from Rocky Mountain Chapter members (or others)

I can't find anything on them. Is that for sure the correct spelling ?? I tried some variations of the spelling but still came up empty. I'll keep looking.

Tracy - Try contacting Purifoy Chevrolet located in Ft. Lupton, Colorado. Ft. Lupton is a little more than 10 miles to the north east of Lafayette, CO. Purifoy Chevrolet went into business in 1960 when Roland Purifoy opened the store. Roland is now deceased, but his son Rollie is running the business. Rollie is a major Corvette fan and is on the dealer advisory team to GM and Chevrolet Corvette. Rollie is a car guy and might be able to help you regarding McMahan Chevrolet. Sorry, I personally don't remember the dealership. Hi Tom, yes that is the correct spelling on the MSO I have. Delivered there on July 25, 1963 under invoice number KS58551. Customer picked it up on July 31.

I've struck gold on this dealership via the public library in Lafayette. I should have a envelope full of goodies on the way.

BTW, I also recieved a private message from "Deb" that came up with a phone number for what turned out to be the owner of the dealership (Loren and Helen MaMahan). I spoke to Helen (now 90) and learned that Loren died in 1983. No ellusive papers or records were kept....

I will post more when the package arrives.

I contacted the nearest library to my selling dealership and yesterday received in PDF format advertisments from the dealership from 1963 in the local newspaper Chicago Tribune.

A few weeks ago I recieved an information packet from the Patty Frobisher - Head of Reference at the Lafayette Public Library. I've had some time recently to update my post with some tidbits.

Patty told me there is some historical information on the McMahan family and how the dealership came to be in a book entitled Lafayette, Colorado : Treeless Plains to Thriving City. This picture below was the only one she could find of the dealership. I've since seen this book for sale on a few internet sites, but the going rate seems to be around $100 for a copy.





Patty also sent a couple of 1963 MaMahan ads from the local paper the Lafayette Leader. This is all fun stuff for sure.
