    Mohr Chevrolet - Dallas, Texas

I received my Shipping Data Report. The original delivery dealer for my '62 was Mohr Chevrolet in Dallas, Texas. From what I have learned, this dealership is out of business. Any member out there familiar with this dealership? Any information gained would be appreciated. I must say I am very happy to at least know the official production date, the official delivery dealer, and the city, state. Thanks NCRS for all the help.

Mohr Chevrolet Company was assigned dealer code #495 and was in zone 7. The address was Central Expressway at San Jancinto, Dallas, Texas. The phone number was RI-7-8141. RI was the prefrix for Riverside. The dealership filed for business in 1933 and went out of business between 1978 and 1980. Mr. Mohr's son eventually took over the business and ran it until the end, he unfortunately passed away about 8 years ago.

Thanks Peter. No pictures yet, still working on it. My next step is to contact the Dallas Library for any information they may have. I'll post photos if I get them.

John, the map in the ad shows the location on Central Expressway between San Jacinto and W. Bryan. Should not be to hard today to go to that location to see what is standing on that piece of ground today?

Peter: The plan is to drive to this location the next time I am in Dallas. I don't know the area at all, but I understand the location is now some type of commercial site. Flora and I have a good excuse to go to Dallas.

John, satellite view of San Jacinto & Hwy 75 (North Central Expressway) area. Totally changed when 75 was expanded and is nothing like "back in the day". Have asked a couple of Dallas natives if they recalled the dealership and none did. Gary....

                  Gary...looking at your attachment..

Wouldn't you say the original location according to the ad would be in lower left hand corner of your overhead view attachment and almost out of the picture?

Maybe I am turned around, but it looks like the dealership was on the west side of the expressway?

                    Peter,

Can't say for sure where the location is since I didn't move to the DFW area until the 70's. Would guess if the address was in the 3600 to 4000 San Jacinto that the dealership was on the corner of San Jacinto and 75. 75 (Central Expressway) at that time was a 4 lane divided highway according to the 1962 street map. 75 was built as an expressway to north Dallas in the late 40's. Attached is a 1962 Dallas street map screen shot and you can see the junction of San Jacinto and 75. Also some map links.

Would encourage everyone looking for vintage information to let "Google" do the walking for you. Founds these links on the 1st page of a Google "Dallas City map 1967" search. Enjoy,

                    Gary....

Gary - Peter: Thanks for the information and additonal maps. I think the actual address was 999 Central Expressway. I have had email communication with several Texas NCRS people who remmeber the dealership. I understand Mohr went out of business between 1978 and 1980. I know with my old memory, remembering what I had for lunch yesterday can be a struggle, let alone 40 years ago. Thanks guys for all the information.

Re: Mohr Chevrolet - Dallas, Texas

Gary, pretty interesting stuff with the old maps! When looking at the dated map of Dallas in 1962 you are not only looking at the time and place of John's Corvette delivery, but also of the JFK assination. I lived in Irving, TX from 1986-1995. Nice city.

Took your suggestion and let Google find my map of the Roseland neighborhood on the southside of Chicago, IL. in 1972.

                        Good job!!

                        Thanks.

Re: Mohr Chevrolet - Dallas, Texas

John and Peter glad to help. 999 N. Central Expressway on the 1962 map calculates out to be San Jancinto if you count north from the 500 block on the other side of main.

Don't recall Mohr in the 70's. Big dealers that sold a lot of Corvettes were Young and Friendly in Dallas, one on LBJ but can't recall the name and Hudiburg in Fort Worth.

Good luck with your pursuits. Wish others would use google searches and contact the local libraries as y'al have!

Hello Markus, Congratulations on your purchase of a C3 and the receipt of the Shipping Data Report. I wish I could provide more information on Mohr Chevrolet, but what I posted is about all I know. I did learn, and did not post, that during the halcyon days of the dealership, Mr. Mohr also had radio ads where he described himself as Pappy Mohr. I did visit the Dallas area, and the location of the dealership is now a cloverleaf for the highway interchanges. Time marches on is probably the best statement in this matter. Enjoy your Corvette - John Marsico
