Dealer Info...jim White, Inc. Ann Arbor, Mi

Hi,

NEWBIE here. Have been on the sidelines for years and, quite frankly, the piece of info I did not have is who is the original dealer. WALLAH! Great piece of info received in the mail today from NCRS. This info got me off dead center and, of course, I'm now a member.

In the dark on info on this dealer as the nearest JIM WHITE dealership comes up in Maumee, Ohio and is now a HONDA dealer (Google search).

Just curious if any members here have any further insight/info on this particular dealer.

From the shipping records:

The original delivering dealer is Dealer code 532, Zone 44.

ANN ARBOR, MI

I have copies of title documents taking ownership back to 1968. From these records I'm thinking I am the 3rd owner on this low optioned, 1 above the base model '65 convertible. Am in contact, from time to time with the 2nd owner who had her 10 years.

It's the first owner who is a mystery and up 'till now the delivering dealer.

Just another piece of the past on her. Enjoying the hunt.

Oh, I've updated the NCRS dealer data base with this info.
All this is more for my curiosity/satisfaction.

Appreciate any/all info on this dealer.

Jim White was in downtown Ann Arbor at 209 W. Huron. I have a receipt from there dated 3/67.

By Jan. 68 he was gone and Rampy Chevrolet out at 3515 Jackson Road was the local Chevrolet dealer.

My 1967 also came from Jim White Chevrolete, 1301 Monroe Street, Toledo, Ohio. Also Zone 44 but dealer #528

Jim White did have several dealers. Through the 1950's until 1961 Jim White operated in Kokomo Indiana until John Zintsmaster purchased the dealership. I recall reading that Jim White Chevrolet was part of an out fit based out of Toledo.

Thanks for that information Ernie. What I did was took a stab at trying to find info on Rampy Chevrolet which is now Suburban.

Call Suburban and spoke to the Sales Manager who couldn't provide any specific info on old records but was able to tell me that it was originally Jim White then Rampy then Gordon then Suburban. Records would have remained with the owners of each of those dealerships.

He did provide me with a 1-800-222-1020 which is GM Customer Service. Just for s**ts and giggles I called and spoke with Maria. Knowing that they really couldn't give me any details on a 45 year old purchase, I gave her my VIN anyway (she wanted to help). After confirming there is nothing on file, she gave me 2 departments within GM to contact.

First: GM Heritage Center -586-276-0693 & 0691 .... we all know at this point, we have what they have.

Second: GM Media Archive - 734-462-5544 x 763 - Their e-mail address is
support@gmmediarchive.com - tried the number and is no longer in service.

I'll just try the e-mail and see what happens.

Think I need to pursue the possible former owners of Rampy and Gordon as well as Suburban. Who knows, the records just may be stashed in storage.

Interesting hunt.

I am glad it worked out for you, well dort of anyhow. I just took a second look and confirmed that Jim White had several dealerships in the Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana areas. It appears that Jim White had dealerships in the 1940's and began selling off in the late 1950's and early 1960's. Good luck with the next chapter of your hunt.

I bought my 71 from Les Stanford around 1976 in Dearborn from a salesman Jim White.
Last I heard he was at their RV center in Belleville.
Maybe maybe not....good luck
