Need Info. for Dealer Code 196 in Zone 49

    Hey guys,
I just received my Shipping Data Report a short time ago. The official production date is correct, but the dealer code and zone is different from what I was told by the second owner. The report claims there is no dealer information available, but says it was "possibly PA dealer". That makes sense since I know the car was purchased in PA and remained there until sold by the second owner. I can make the assumption that the car was sent to the selling dealer by the delivery dealer to make the sale to the first owner who perhaps lived in a neighboring city. Assuming that is what happened, I am curious to know who the delivery dealer was, but the data base doesn't have any information for Zone 49, Dealer Code 196. Please let me know if anyone has information on any dealers that match my numbers.

    Thank you,
    Roger (50141)

Found this on the Team Chevelle website, you may want to add this to the NCRS dealer info. Not sure its correct since its a 1978 date.

I thought that our dealer info was tied into Team Chevelles?

All I can say it shows up on the Team Chevelle dealer search but not on the NCRS dealer search.

          Brian,
Thank you so much for the information! Hackenberg Chevrolet in Milton, PA is a 2.5 hour drive from where I was told the car was sold at Hallman's Chevrolet in Johnstown. Similar to today, I assume that the sales manager at Hallman's would call his buddy at Hackenberg to make an "inventory trade" for a Corvette in a color combination and with options requested by a customer. From what I read, that was a fairly common practice back in '65. Assuming that is correct, that brings up another question. What dealer would be listed on the window sticker? Would both the delivery dealer and selling dealer be listed on the same window sticker? If not, which dealer would be listed? If both dealers were printed on the window sticker, I would appreciate seeing an example if someone could post a photo so I can see exactly how it was done.

Roger that area is right north of where my car spend 38 years we know of.

Did you get the note I sent you a week ago???

            Go to instaVIN.com

You just might have PA reported data on the first time the car was titled and the date of the first transfer, seems that is the data I got, no names, but the dates were consistent with the title A date I had of 6-24-66 versus on the web of 6-26-66, and I now have a date on the time line from title A to B to C.

              Hello Roger,
The factory listed the ordering dealer name and address on the window sticker for that Corvette.
The dealer swap or transfer had nothing to do with the window sticker.
The MSO was used to transfer the car to the other dealer. For the selling dealer to sent MSO and other paper work to DMV to register the Corvette for the customer.
              Regards,
              Drew Papsun

                Ron,
I ordered a full history report for my car from instaVIN.com for $ 6.99, but the only information they provided was my purchase transaction. I will call them tomorrow to find out why there isn't more information -- at least the transaction when the previous owner purchased the car about 11 years ago. However, I do have the complete ownership history of my car due to my diligent research and some luck, and have spoken to all of the previous owners other than #1 (still working on that). Owner #2 told me that the car was purchased from Hallman's, but the Shipping Data Report lists a Zone and Dealer # in a neighboring city. The one title copy that I don't have (I was lucky to get all others from DMV offices) is the original one. The second title shows the date when the car was originally titled, but does not have the original owner or selling dealer's name. I would like to have a document that confirms this information. I thought the Shipping Data Report would at least confirm the dealer, but it now appears that the car was transferred or traded from the delivery dealer to the selling dealer.

                Drew,
If I understand what you explained about how the window sticker was printed, then the window sticker for my car would have the delivery dealer's name & address printed (Hackenberg Chevrolet), and not the selling dealer's name & address (Hallman's Chevrolet). I assume that the "ordering dealer" is the same as the "delivery dealer". Please confirm that my understanding of this is correct. It sure would have been nice if they started tank stickers back in '65!!

                Thank you guys,
                Roger (50141)

                  Roger -

The ordering dealer was the shipping destination on the Chevrolet records when the car left St. Louis; that would also be the selling/delivery dealer, unless the car was involved in a dealer trade, and the Chevrolet shipping records wouldn't reflect that.
