Searching 63 Conv history 30867S109048. Acme Chev, Robinson, IL

I received this Vehicle History Report from Hagerty Insurance Driver Club this summer when I bought the car. Shows registrations back to 1995 in Richmond Indiana. Possibly same owner for 25 years or maybe multiple owners in the same area. I bought the car from a dealership and no ownership history was provided to me with the sale.

This is a restored car with numbers matching drive train and many other correct part numbers and date codes on various items on the car. It was re-painted Riverside Red with a red interior. Trim plate indicates original colors to be Tuxedo Black with black interior.

Looking for the next step in finding out more history. It's a long shot but maybe someone reading this post previously owned the car or knows where I can look for more info. I don't know the source of Hagerty's info but they were able to get back to 1995 somehow. Is it possible somehow to find out the original dealer? Would be nice to know at least where the car originated.

    Thanks

Thomas- You should be able to obtain the name and address of the Original Dealer for your 63 by getting a GM Shipping Data Report (from the NCRS store)

The Shipping Data Report will not give you the original owner's name. It will give you the original dealer name, city, dealer number, zone number and production date.

          Bob,

Thanks for the reply. That would still be good information for me. May confirm that the car was delivered to it's original owner in Indiana where it was registered as far back as 1995.

            Bob,
If all records from the St. Louis were destroyed in a fire as claimed by GM, how is it that the Shipping Data Reports are available? Was that info store apart from other records?

I noticed that the National Corvette Museum has archives that can be searched in person for a fee. Do you know generally what is in the archive?

The records that we have were stored separate from the factory, so were not destroyed. As I understand it the museum has records for all of the Corvettes built t the Bowling Green plant starting in 1981.

Tom, I do not recall hearing that the records were destroyed in a fire. I know the attorney that worked for GM that was assigned the mission to locate all the records prior to his retirement. He went to every storage location that GM owned in the US. No records were to be found. I believe they were thrown away as there was no place to store them in St. Louis.

What NCRS has is micro-fiche of the paper records. Some of the frames are unreadable due to age. The fiche is not for every year. I do not know where GM stored these or the negotiations that occurred for NCRS to obtain them.

                  Harry,

Thanks for reply. The Corvette Museum website is where I got the info about the fire destroying the records.

I think you might be confusing this with the fire in St.Louis that destroyed VA recrds: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nation...ds_Center_fire

No, it's on the NCM website under Resources/Library and Archives/build sheets and window stickers. In the FAQ's.

All it says is We have been told by GM..... I'm not sure that counts as factual. Why would they have a high level attorney look for them if they knew they were lost in a fire.

Good question Harry. Probably there to keep corvette owners from bugging them for historical info.

Got a lead from Indiana Chapter NCRS on a fellow from Richmond IN by the name of Richard Foster. Is said to have a nice collection of collection of cars in that area. Maybe he knows something about my 63. I searched his name on this forum and found a person with same name and with NCRS member number 19413. Not sure if this is the same person but would like to get in touch. Does anyone know Richard and how to contact him?

Just send him an email through the NCRS system and ask if it's him.
