Question regarding my Shipping Data Report letter

I received my Shipping Data Report from Bob Demmel, and unfortunately, the letter reports that they did not know the name or location of my 1968's selling dealership. The letter stated that the dealership name started with a "C", and was located in Minnesota, South Dakota or North Dakota. I have since found that I believe my selling dealership was Bob Chase Chevrolet in Mandan, North Dakota. Interestingly enough, this dealership was subsequently sold several times, ultimately ending up owned by Dave Ressler, a true Corvette lover.

My question, is with this new found information, is it possible to get NCRS to issue me a new Shipping Data Report showing Dealer 118 Zone 33, Chase Chevrolet as the selling dealership?

Brad, you can ask but I doubt it. The data that Bob is looking at is GM microfiche. I believe the fiche is a view of original GM computer printout. Bob has good data, some is missing and some is damaged. What they are doing is passing along validated GM data. When it comes from somewhere else, such as your research, that may pollute the data pool.

Brad, We need some tyep of documentation to add this to the system. One pathway is to contact the ND Sec of State and get the information on this business as to when it started in business and when it ended or still going. The other is to find a GM document from another car that was sold by them which shows the dealer code.

Brad - according to the following snippet at the link, the business was founded by Chase in 1935, and went through many iterations and is now Kupper Chevrolet, and personally I would contact the dealership and see what they have / can find for you. Just saying.............

Thank you Rick - I have reached out to Kupper and they have given me several leads on people that may be able to send me more information. I have found a photo of the exterior of Bob Chase Chevrolet from 1969 where it is surrounded by new Impala 4 doors and station wagons. Unfortunately, my Corvette is not sitting there in the photo! The dealership was Bob Chase Chevrolet from 1935 to 1980. The search continues!

Question for Mark Lincoln -

Unrelated to my particular car, but to ask a question about your documentation from another car. I have a 1970 Chevrolet Warranty "Protecto Plate" that is stamped with the Chevrolet Dealership in Sidney Iowa and what I believe to be the dealer number. In searching the online NCRS Dealer Code Database, neither the dealer name or city is listed. Is my information something that the NCRS database manager would want to update the database with this information, or is that not satisfactory data to use? Im sure there were not many Corvettes sold in Sidney Iowa, but you never know if someone else out there is doing the same search for information that I am.

First, if you have a POP let me know what the dealer code is and I'll take a look. Second, your Corvette is listed as coming from zone 33-118 which is not listed in our books. However 33-119 is listed as Chase. I've seen cases where GM did not list all the numbers from one dealer. More to come. Hang on.

Perhaps this will help to some extent. I called the reference department at the Bismark Public Library and spoke to Kate. All the ads I had seen for Bob Chase were all dated 1970 and later showing Bob Chase located at 1500 2nd St. N. E. I asked Kate to check her 1968 and 1969 Polk and City directories. It seems that Bob Chase relocated in 1969 to 1500 2nd St. N. E. from their previous address of 107 3rd Ave N. W. This is probably the reason for the change in dealer Codes from 118 to 119. I asked Kate to e-mail me the information and I have attached it below.

Mark and Paul - I believe you may be onto something with the Dealer code being changed from 118-119 when the dealership moved from 107 3rd Ave NW to 1500 2nd Street NE. I am including 2 photos. The first one is a sattelite photo of Kupper Chevrolet, which is the same location that Paul listed from his research on 2nd St NE. Notice the "MANDAN" on the hill. The second photo is of the "new" Bob Chase dealership surrounded by what appears to be new 1969 or 1970 Impalas and you will see the same hill behind the dealership with "MANDAN" spelled out in painted rocks. My 1968 Corvette was produced November 1967 so its very possible that the dealer code of 118 was the "old" dealership address where my Corvette was delivered before the new dealership was open for business. Im working with someone at Kupper Chevrolet to research their records to see if they can come up with verifiable proof for you of the dates the dealership moved, and their dealer code at the "old" address on 107 3rd Ave NW.

I know none of this really makes a difference, but if possible, and I can get the verification you require, it would be neat to have a NCRS shipping Data Report that actually shows "Bob Chase Chevrolet" and not just "No Data - begins with C".

I will let you know what I hear from Kupper Chevy.

its possible that previous microfische was misread or timeline for dealership change needs better definition

Hugh Patterson - The Shipping Data Report I received from Bob Demmel says that Dealer 118 Zone 33 is "No Data - Begins with C". The 1500 2nd NE address you listed is still the current address of the Chevrolet dealership, although it changed hands from Chase to Gandrud to Ressler and now Kupper over the years from 1969-today. Im curious how your information shows 33-118 at the new address, while Mark says the NCRS data shows the new address to be 33-119?

In the late 70's I was involved with several GM executives in the Corvette world. One of these was Becky Bodnar that worked many years for Joe Pike from Corvette News.
In November of 1979 she gave me a list of Chevrolet dealerships for a project that I was working on. She asked that I not share it. The list is dated November 1979 and shows the 33-118 as Chase. At that time 33-119 did not exist. The closest (alphabetically by dealership last name not nearest location to Mandan ND) was 33-111 Cameron-Hardy Chevrolet and 33-120
(Church Chevrolet). That does not mean that the zone/dealer was not something different before late 1979. As I mentioned in previous message you will need to work out your timeline to verify when things changed but I show Bob Chase Chevrolet as 33-118 in November 1979 location 1500 2nd St NE. I hope that helps.
