Searching for a 62 Corvette- Daniels Motors, CO Springs

Yes, VIN is unknown (isn't that always the case)

I am looking for a long lost Corvette for a friend of mine. I am looking for confirmation of the actual VIN, as well as the current location of the car.

Here is what I know for sure...

    1. Corvette was delivered in Colorado Springs as a part of the "Fleet" program to cadets of the Academy, in Dec 1961.
    2. Dealer for this car was Daniels Motors in Colorado Springs, CO.
    3. The car was registered in Florida in Hillsborough County.
    4. Car was old/traded it in Valdosta Ga. sometime in 1967.
    5. The car was Roman red/black, soft top only, 250HP 4 speed. Radio/heater, no power windows or other options.

Here is what I suspect about the car's VIN

Car was delivered to customer on 12/16/61. (This date is pretty close)
Estimated dates of arrival to dealership = 12/11/61 to 12/15/61.
Estimated date loaded at St. Louis = 12/10/61 to 12/14/61.
Estimated build date = 11/27/61 to 12/14/61. (Assuming build date is 14 days before arrival at dealer)

First car built on 11/27/61 is 03244. Last car built on 12/14/61 is 04092.

So, my best guess is that the VIN of this car is between 03244 and 04092.

OK, I am looking for a 1962 Corvette, VIN between 20867S103244 and 20867S104092, originally a 250 hp, 4 speed, Roman Red exterior, black interior, soft top only, delivered to Daniels Motors in Colorado Springs, CO for delivery about Dec 16, 1961.

Any suggestions on other avenues to search for this car would be greatly appreciated.

    Ed

Ed, if it was delivered before graduation, did it ever have a USAF academy parking sticker?

Thought about that Loren. It would have had one, but the Academy does not keep records back that far.

For what it's worth, Hillsborough County Fla. (basically Tampa) is the home of MacDill Air Force Base and Valdosta, Ga. is the home of Moody Air Force Base. There's a good chance the original owner was stationed at one or both of those after graduating from the AFA. And since cadets have a 6 year active duty commit after graduation, could be that he was leaving the service in '67, by then either had or was planning on having a family and the Corvette became impractical as he was returning to civilian life.

The officer traded the car info a dealer in Valdosta is exchange for a station wagon before deploying to Thailand. The officer was killed in a take off accident in March of 1968. He was married with 2 children at the time of his death. His family lived in Hillsborough County, FL, and he was stationed at Moody AFB before deploying to Thailand.
