Looking for info on United Chevrolet, Worcester, MA, zone-code 32-670

    Hi,

I'm looking for information on United Chevrolet of Worcester, MA. My 1972 Corvette was originally sold by this dealer. From what I can find it looks like at one point this dealer was called Butler Chevrolet, they were into performance cars. Mr. Butler may have been a racer himself. The company went bankrupt in the 80's?

If anyone has information on this dealership, more specifically around the early 70s or (71/72), I'd love to learn more about it.

Please email me with information at n8chandler@gmail.com

    Thanks!!

I grew up less than a mile from United Chevrolet... the family bought a few vehicles from the dealership. My earliest memory was when George Butler (Butler Chevrolet) sold the dealership to Dick Robidoux and it was renamed United Chevrolet. The new car showroom was located at 495 Shrewsbury Street... the main entrance being on the corner of Shrewsbury St and Aitchison St. The service entrance was in the back... off Plantation Street. Across the street, they had their used car lot. As a kid, I recall seeing all the used Vettes parked in the front... it was like 'Corvette Row'.

Our local Corvette club was formed in the dealership conference room in the summer of 1973. As a young teenager, I was present (with a relative that owned a '66) for the second meeting when the club voted on their name... and we are still know today as Corvettes United.

I recall my father (in his late 50's) beating a much younger Dick Robidoux in a push-up contest... getting an additional discount on a new 1970 Impala coupe. And sometime in the 70's, they opened a Mazda dealership a short distance down the street. Unfortunately, I believe Mr Robidoux ran into some legal issues and the dealerships eventually shut down. The main building is now used as a U-Haul storage facility.

I've tried to locate some old pictures, but was unsuccessful... though I'm still working on it. Here are a few images of the current location (https://goo.gl/maps/QeNyztRkU3Q2):
