Red 65 396 car from Lexington Chev, Lexington, TN

I recall seeing this car on court square in the late 70s or early 80s. Anyone know anything about this car? Who was the owner, where is it now?

Not looking to buy or bother the owner, just curious as these things are pretty rare...

Re: red 65 396 car in Lexington, TN about 1980

Dave we would need allot more information than just a red 396 . There were 2157 396s made . I have been tracking them sense about 1980 and only have about 480 on my list . Thats only about 22% in 35 years and and some of those are just blocks or paperwork . The survivibilty rate of the 396 was not to good .

I hear you Bill. Wish I had more data. Just wondering of a lurker on NCRS might know the car. Although I THINK it was a conv with white top, I wouldn't bet the farm. The worst part about getting old isn't my cold naturedness, or painful joints; it's losing my memory.

There were some good memories in there...I think...

That 396 was owned by Benny Washburn which at that time owned Lexington Chevrolet. Sorry to say but Benny has passed and the Lexington Chevrolet dealership has been sold.
The trail is cold but Lexington Chevrolet still exists and some of the people that knew Benny are still there!

I recall that the dealership was Odle Chevy-Olds in the 70s and Odle sold out about that time period...I assume to Washburn. I often saw nice muscle and classic cars at the dealership after that when they moved to the current location just south of downtown, but I never spoke to Washburn. Was he a Lexington resident? Did you know him? If you are from the area, you probably know Taze Lofton (Lofton Chevrolet in Henderson) and Jerry Wilkins of Jackson too.

I assume the car is no longer local. That's some pretty valuable iron to be hanging around in a small town. Not sure how nice it was, but it sure looked good on the street.

Thanks for the history lesson. I've wondered for 30 years! Dave
