Clem, my daughter found out about that as she has moved around to different states in the past years. By the way a great April 1, article. Very funny because it could be so true. Thanks for the laugh.

This seems to have been posted on about all of the car-related sites, and initially, at least, it has been receiving the same outraged responses. In this age of "Fox News" and MSNBC, I am not surprised in the least.

Good one! I bit hard and was about to send this 'Senator Schumer' an angry email from down under in Western Australia. I firgured they would be tracking me down for the tax because I am US citizen with my '61 in Perth. Good thing April fools day only comes once a year- I'd be upset all the time if it were more often.

Please do not give him any more ideas. He can come up with enough idiotic ideas without any help.

                              Clem,
In Mass the yearly excise tax on the vehicle appears to take the place of a personal property tax. The schedule goes down each year and is based upon the initial value of vehicle so by the time you are out 25 years it's around $10 - $20.
When you purchase the car however the Registry has their own book with values & that's what you pay for sales tax and those numbers are higher than what these cars (most) are worth.
OH - April 1, never mind!
