    Firewall cable ties, how many and where?

    Can someone verify for me with a picture or diagram showing how many black flexible cable ties are used along the firewall and specifically where they go/what items they should secure?
    My car is a 67' 327/300-hp, 4-speed with air conditioning. I've checked the assembly manual and judging guide, but I'm still confused about it and want to get it right for the Nationals.
    Thank you, Jeff

    I can't speak to a '67 other than to refer to the AIM, but the purpose of the tie straps is primarily to keep the wiring harness neat and away from the metal clips by running the hood release caple in the metal clips and then hanging the harness below the clips using the plastic tie straps. UPC 12, page A8 shows four, one center and one on each side at about the midpoint between the centerline of the hood opening and the outboard edge, and the fourth holding the wiper motor harness brance secure. (item 21). '67 uses a different wiring config than '65 so that's all the help I can give, I don't know if the JG indicates a required number or not, but if it does, just think of hanging the harness so it does not contact the wire clips and you should be close.

      Right, William, the '67 SB's use 6 ties.
      Two for the washer hose and two on each side. ('67 JG pg. 90.)
      Jeffrey, The AIM lists theit locations in three different sections. Check the archives, there was a lengthy post recently that list "Chapter & Verse" where they are located.

        From a 67 300hp April car - original owner says thinks that's all there ever were. An alarm was added in 67 but everything else should be untouched in the harness area.

          I like the wire harness in the J clip above the M/C. Some judges don't. BTW not all cars have this J clip. quote=Alan Drake (43261);562288]From a 67 300hp April car - original owner says thinks that's all there ever were. Jeff,

            Went through this on my car a while back. Let me try and take some pics of the Aim pages I used and of the clips as I adjusted them. I'm not sure from what I've seen that I believe all cars always had 6 straps, but that is the way I configured it for judging.

              Hello Brian;
              Does your experience indicate if the J clip above the master is not there. Can you feel, with your fingertip, the rivet to which it would been attached ?

                Ray, my feeling is some cars never had this J clip, don't know if it's a STL/AOS issue. [quote=Ray Geiger (9992);562398]

                  Re: Firewall cable ties, how many and where?

                  Sorry this took so long. I used the two AIM pictures to determine that a total of 6 straps could be present. One of the AIM pictures is in the AC section (which my car has), so maybe other cars only had 5.

                      The other two (besides the four shown in UPC 12) are shown with the washer hoses in UPC 1, sheet D4.

                        For reasons unknown, the 1967 AIM does not call out the first tie-strap to the RH side of center (labelled #4 in pencil in your picture, from C60-E1. See UPC 12-A8 for the similar drawing with Item 21 tie-straps called out, except for the one you labelled #4).

                        But this Item 21 tie-strap IS called out by number (Item 21) at this specific position in the 1963-1966 AIMs. Picture below is from the 1966 AIM (UPC 12-A9), the others are all the same, even the same "Item 21" number. It was omitted at this position in 1967 only, yet it seems we're all counting it as if it should be there for 1967. Might it have been omitted intentionally, or was it a simple oversight when the 1967 AIM drawing was made?
