    Why I love desert cars.

I pulled the rocker moulding on my 65 from So. Ca. A wipe with a damp cloth and this is what I found.

JIm, that looks like the stencil was brushed or rolled on, is that the way it was done on those years ?

      WOW now that is NICE!

I'm from SC so rust isn't an issue down this way really either.

Yup - it was done with a paint roller, not a brush.

            Jim,

What a beauty! My '65 is just a couple of weeks older than your CLEAN car. I found mine in Washington D.C. where the elements had taken their toll on her. She's looking good now, but I'm sure most all of your bolt headmarks are crisp and would be a cinch to replate or just keep the car as a survivor.

            Enjoy that '65!
            Mike

Thanks John, I knew you would know the answer.

Mike, I bought the car as a retirement gift to myself. It is a low mile, fully documented, 1 owner car. Every number I've checked with the Tech. & Info. Manual is correct except the vacuum advance unit which I know is original SO the manual is WRONG. Hopefully it will be corrected in the next edition.

                Jim,

We're both 2nd owners of our '65s. I found mine in D.C. back in '92. The original owner changed nothing on the car and it was all there when I finally bought it on my birthday in Feb '93. The car was neglected as it rested waiting to be rescued exposed to the elements. I got it running a couple of days prior to get her ready to get on my trailer. She hadn't moved from that spot for 6 years.

All that aside, she was definately doable. 3 years later she was stopping traffic wherever she went. Still does. Your comment on the JG was interesting. My car's a 350hp with TI. What's interesting is that she had/has an idler pulley installed like the 365hps have. Not supposed to be there, but it is. The original owner recalls all maintenance done and was knowlegable of the car. He says it's always been there. April 1st build day '65.

                Take care,
                Mike

Sounds like you found another error in the manual. Somebody should pay attention to these original cars.

Jim how does the time frame line up, from the frame pull date to cars build date. Thanks Phil

Wow that's a real clean car Jim !!!! I guess all that looking has paid off well done.
Now a photo as good as your Ermine 60 would be nice. I hope a nice photo of your 65 will not cause me to want to buy a mid year. Stewy

Jim THANKS for the reply, I wish it was a S.T.L car, AOS bodies are shipped to STL so the time line gets a little mixed up. Thanks again Phil 8063

I have a '67 West Virginia car, which is located in the so called "rust belt". Strangely enough, when I bought it, there was not a trace of rust anywhere. I'm guessing that WVA didn't salt the roads back then!
