Styrofoam wedges found in my 71 coupe ?

    Hey all !

I was just doing a little nosing around through the interior of my mostly original 71 coupe and noticed styrofoam blocks or wedges located in the rear compartment corners. I was able to remove one. I have never seen these and was unable to locate them in the assembly manual. They appear to have always been there ???? You guys ever seen these ? It is a wedge and measures about 9 1/2" long. Part number on this one is 3922302 RH. It is marked RH, but I removed it from the left (driver's) side ? What do ya think ?? Here's a photo.

Check this out. I just thought I'd reach down in the space where this wedge was and found a gas receipt from April of 1973. It has the owner's name, address and license number. Might be the original owner. How strange is that !!

What's even better is you got the prior owner's full Gulf Oil credit card number! Remember the 'good ole' days when receipts recorded our full account number info???

I wondered what they looked like out of the car. I have seen the butt end of them, but never tried to take them out. Thanks for satisfying my curiosity.

                  Tom:
Are you going to try to locate the owner from the 1973 Gulf gas receipt? I was able to locate and speak to 6 of the 7 previous owners of my '65 recently. He is probably the original owner and, with some luck, might have photos and even documentation like the POP -- you just never know. He will certainly know the original dealership where he bought the car. It's a very cool experience when you go searching for previous owners and finally get one on the phone ! Go to White Pages.com and use the same city from the receipt. Using some "detective" work, I was able to locate every one of them this way. Owner #5 mailed me the original ignition key, and they are all looking for photos, etc. If you try, let us know when you find him.

                  Good luck,
                  Roger (50141)

I tracked-down the original owner of a '69 L46 Coupe I owed via a gas receipt just like the one you found (this one was under the driver's seat). The address was different (2-years more recent) than than the POP info. Within 2 hours of searching the internet I had him on the phone. Said he might have some of the purchase docs and the gold lapel pin. I was able to get a photo from him that included he and his family just a few months after his purchase from Harry Mann Chevrolet. Fun Stuff!

I wrote a blog with tips on tracking-down previous owner history on my blog if you're interested: http://www.corvettes.com/articles/?p=20

                        Hi,
Just the right hand side was in my 71 coupe.
I think it's interesting that the wedges were marked RH and LH, I don't think too many parts are marked that way. The 2 sides are so close in configuration I guess it helped the person installing them.
                        Regards,
                        Alan

I just can't believe I've never seen or heard of them before. What year did they stop using them. I have not looked in my 73 yet.
