    1956 single four distributor?

    OK, here is the next question about 1956 single four barrel cars.

    What distributor did these cars use? Did they have a vacuum advance distributor or not?

    1110872 or 1110879 (early and late with some overlap) neither used vacuum advance.

        Scott;

        Thanks for trhe update.

        Where did this info come from?

        I have owner survey info on 3 known original single four cars. All three have an 1110879 distributor. Mike Hunt had an additional car in his survey, also with a 1110879 distributor.

        I have an 1110878 in my 72K original miles 56 Chevy four door sedan with powerpack engine.

          Ed, early cars principally 2 bolt '56 engines. What are the VIN's of the cars in your survey info? Gary....

            3809 and 4358 from Mike Hunt's data
            4411 and 4444 from owner surveys done for me.

            All show 1110879 distributor.

            There is one more, also a late car, but I can't recall the VIN right now. It also has an 879 distributor.

            Not sure there is such a thing as an early single four car. Single four engine became base motor as announced in Chevrolet Bulletin dated April 6, 1956. I believe that all cars prior to that were two four cars. That would put the earliest possible single four car (using April 6 as a rough starting date) at around #1800.

            I think we say that the change between 1st and 2nd design engines occurred around #1650.

              Ed, correction meant to say right after the early 2 bolt 1st design engines. Unfortunately, there's very little information available on any distributor use other than 879. Gary....
