    1st design 546xx '65-6 Caliper (inspection ?) paint markings

These unrestored originals were removed from my very late 1965, in 1988, when I bought the car. These are both rear calipers and the orange paint is found only on the inboard halves. The fronts show no evidence of paint. The right rear also has 2 dabs of ivory/white next to the orange. Seems to be the same color I've seen on one of the halfshaft yokes -- differential end.

I'm thinking that the orange was applied before caliper installed on trailing arm and before it was installed on the chassis. (AIM shows T.A. w/caliper arrived already assembled (off-line ?); then joined to the differential, half shafts, strut rods & bracket at the start of the St.L chassis line.

Anyone seen these paint markings on their calipers ?

    Wayne -

The calipers were installed as part of the complete trailing arm assembly at Chevrolet-Warren, and the arm arrived at St. Louis ready to install, less the brake pipe from the caliper to the bracket on the arm.

My early 66, Sept 65 build, car had the following swatches on the calipers.

John & Bob: John; thanks for the new (to me) info on Chevrolet Warren for the complete trailing arm assy.

Bob - glad to see someone else has the orange dab. Guess this is further proof that my rear calipers are original to the car. Vehicle assembled Aug 2nd (Julian 214) and I see there are only 34 calendar days separating your September car's caliper date from the casting date on mine; one dated '99', and 24 days on my other '119'. So this fits in nicely. My 'newest' date is Julian 155, on a front caliper.
