My '60 was cosmetically restored 20 years ago and many of the paint traces were destroyed by covering up by subsequent paint. We raise the car on a lift and saw where a wheel weight had been removed and the color underneath appears to be turquoise. Could this be the right body color? (It's painted Horizon Blue/Ermine white currently) More imporantly, which 1960 colors were metallic vs. non-metallic? Was Tasco Turquoise metallic or non-metallic? Thanks for your help.

Re: 60 Paint colors - metallic or non-metallic
Tasco Turquoise was definately a Metallic. My color charts are not at hand right now, but White, Red, and Black were the only '60 non-metallics I can remember, Honduras Maroon, Tasco Turquoise, Horizon Blue, Cascade Green, Sateen /Silver were Metallics. If I can find my color charts I'll double-check, but I'm pretty sure of the above.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Search the archives for more details, but the original color is usually written on the trunk bulkhead, hidden under the cover for the springs on the hinges.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Thanks Dennis. I'll look but when the car was repainted 20 some years ago I believe that was all shot over by the painter.Keith MacRae

Re: 60 Paint colors - metallic or non-metallic
Thanks all but I think that was all covered up by previous re-paints. When I got the car the previous owner had it up on sawhorses and was spraying it all white. Then I came behind and painted it Horizon Blue. Perhaps if I take a photo of the wheel area and fiquure out how to post it to the site maybe William or someone else who has a color chart can give me an opinion of whether it's close to Tasco Turquoise or not. Certainly looks more green than the on-line charts I've seen.Keith MacRae

Re: 60 Paint colors - metallic or non-metallic
You have probably already checked, but most painters make very little effort if at all to paint the inside of the glove box on C1's. Anything there? Possibly towards the back of the compartment on the bottom.
Good luck.

Re: 60 Paint colors - metallic or non-metallic
Hi Gary. Good idea. We're confident that the interior was black because of black paint remnants on the floor and tunnel under the carpet and inside the glove box is black. What I'm trying to do is validate the exterior color after the car had been painted two or three times over the past 25+ years. Wondering if some laquer thinner on the tunnel or behind the passenger seat would remove the old paint down to where some crayon marks might remain? Has anyone tried to do this? Thanks all.Keith MacRae

Re: 60 Paint colors - metallic or non-metallic
Keith, I understand that you are trying to find the exterior color. When the car exterior is painted there is alway some overspray inside the glove box when they shoot the glove box exterior sides. The glove box exterior is the section that runs between the seats and is shot exterior color not interior color.
I have seen many older restorations that fail to paint the inside (backside) of the glove box door as well. This can also be a determinate.
Good luck.

Re: 60 Paint colors - metallic or non-metallic
Keith:
You can try scraping the right hand trunk bulkhead area as others have suggested, however, if there are numerous layers you probably won't have any luck with that approach.
Go back to the interior of the glove box. You state that it is black. If that is the only color that you can find in there, then you have your answer-the exterior of the car was black. The glove box was always painted exterior color on the straight axle cars.- Top

Re: 60 Paint colors - metallic or non-metallic
I agree with Ed. If the only color that you can detect inside the glove box is black, you have your answer. They didn't typically paint the interior of the glove box, so the only paint that would have gone in there is exterior paint either from the exterior color of the glove box or from overspray from the convertible top compartment which was also painted body color.
