    1964 327/300hp Pulleys

Hi Gents, can you kindly confirm the GM pulley #s for a '64 Corvette with a 327/300hp motor?

Looking for crank shaft and water pump pulley #s.

    Thanks,
    Dan

          Joe,

The 1964 Corvette AIM (Sect. 6, Sheet A3.00) lists GM # 3744043 for the C/S Pulley (base engine). No part number listed for the L75 (300 HP) pulley in this AIM.

          My 1964 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (Oct. 1963) lists GM # 3747479 (6 5/8" O.D.) for 63-64 Corvettes (exc. Sp. H/Per, F.I., C.A.C.) and also lists GM #3850838 for 64 Corvettes (exc. Sp. H/Per, F.I.). The 3850838 is 7 21/64" O.D. This is a bit confusing.

          My 1971 Corvette Parts Catalog (Sept. 1971) lists GM # 3747479 for 63-66 Corvette (exc. H/Per., Sp. H/Per., F.I., C.A.C.) and described as "PULLEY (double 6 5/8" O.D. painted black)(stamped 3744043)". This is correction as it adds "exc. H/Per." (300 H.P.).

Therefore, I agree that the 3850838 is the 1964 300 H.P. C/S pulley as you stated above.

GM # 3747479 was replaced by 3744043 in Dec. 1971 as per Chevrolet Parts History (for service parts). GM # 3744043 is 6 5/8" O.D.

For some reason and as you point out, GM #3744043 and GM #3850838 were both cataloged for 1964 Corvettes for the balancer pulley application. Both pulleys would have been available in the "parts bin" at the time, although the 3850838 would have been very recently released. The two pulleys have considerably different diameters, though.

While the GM #3747459 was replaced by the GM #3744043, both pulleys were released in the mid 50's. In fact, the 3744043 is an older pulley than the 3747459. Both pulleys would have been in the GM "parts bin" at the time that 1964 Corvettes were in production.

Hi Gents, thanks for the info. Turns out I was given wrong info by the owner. The car has power steering but no AC.

Does this influence the pulley set up for the water pump or crank shaft?

              Regards,
              Dan

                Dan,

The 1964 Corvette AIM (SECT. N40, Sheet 2) lists GM # 3751232 as the P/S pulley. This is an "add on" pulley as it is bolted to the front of the C/S pulley. GM # 3751232 was also used on Chevrolet passenger car of the same era. I have several in my collection from years past.
