    Door Latch Mounting

    Hello Members:
I am trying to assemble all the door latch mechanisms on my 72. The AIM is not much help as the pictures are such poor quality. My bad is that I did not take enough photos when I took every thing apart. It would certainly be a great help if any body out there has some good pics (especially of the retaining clips) that you could e/m to me or know of a publication that I can get my hands on that has the info I am looking for.
Any help here will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Rey

Rey, I have never had mine apart. Are you talking about pics that require disassembly or something on the outside? Btw, my car is a 68.

      Rey,

Here's a few photos. Let me know if you need another shot- the door panels are removed so photos are easy now.

The Corvette Body section of the CSM has a good detailed drawing of the door hardware as well.

Lessons learned when I assembled this hardware:
      - Clean everything well. I used brake cleaner and a toothbrush on the latch and interior door pull mechanisms.
      - Operate the latch, lock and door handle pull to make sure everything works smoothly.
      - Look for bent, stripped, rusty or seized adjusting rods.
      - Lubricate the heck out of the mechanisms while they're out of the door. I used Dura Lube which worked great.
      - After assembly, take your time adjusting the rods to get everything just right.

            Hi Mark,
Thanks for the reply. As I mentioned before I will put these photo's to good use. Studying the pictures I notice at the adjustment end where the threads enter the rod (long rod) there is a slight bend in the adjustment threads right as it enters the rod. Is there a reason for this bend? Also Covette Central put out an article about adding power windows to these cars and their pics show a rod for the inside door lock that has a severe, almost 45 deg. bend ( threaded adjustment point )where it links up with the inside handle mechanism.
Now these two rods are basically not related but the bends have me wandering, are these bends needed for some reason or are they the result of some form of bubba mechanical interaction? All of mine are straight!

These rods are basically straight. I've seen them bend or break due to binding. You might check clearance when installing the door panel. Maybe a subtle bend helps with that.

The door in the photos has PW. I believe the latch and lock assemblies are the same either way.
