Do the original fender spears have the last to studs threaded or are they plain for a speed nut application. I' about to install the small retainer clips into the fender. If you ever had to remove them again, will the clips pull out and damage the fender?

Re: C-1 Top Fender Spear
Most production 59's all had threaded studs in all locations of original top fender trims. Flat washers and machine nuts held them on. Later replacements used unthreaded studs for Pal nut attachment.
However, the difference for the 2 rearward attachments was unique on factory installed trims. The holes for the rear 2 positions in the body were inaccessible as the underdash reinforcements blocked access to tools for a nut in those locations.
The last 2 holes held a special push-pin type retainer. The studs would be held down by a friction fit.

I investigated this a few years ago when I took a very original '59 apart with it's original trims with threaded studs. Bill M had the answer. Much more info here......

Pat, once those studs are in the retainers they are there to stay. You may want to open the retainers a bit so not so tight of a fit and removeable. But tight enough to hold the trim down.
