    Re: 68 grill paint

We have a winner-69 style at the very least. Thanks for the clarification on the end horizontal ribs.
Intersting John that you have two dif types. Anyone know if the style change to the grill was a rolling change in mid 68 or should I add this part to my growing list of needs?

    Thanks,
    Pat

Looking at the 68 and 69 AIM more carefully they actually call out 3 different part numbers for the grills.

In the 68 AIM it was 3915845-6 for the left and right grills.

The 69 AIM shows the 3966553-4 grills replacing the 3953035-6 some time during the model year. I have no idea what the differences between these two grills are. Maybe the change from silver paint to no silver paint? The date the drawing was updated in the AIM is shown as 11-13-68.

I took the 69 style grill off of my car and it is the second 69 style (3966554). Based on this it is probably a replacement.

        Patrick,

Good luck on finding an unbroken '68 grill. I have been searching for almost 6 years. The center grill behind the license plate is very easy to find but the ones that houses the turn signal light are difficult to say the least.

Ha, it figures, i will keep my ears out for a couple sets. Good thing I'm still building my suspension, so I have some time to find corrects-if they exist

Thanks again everyone! I'm always impressed by the knowledge everyone has.

My July 68 built coupe grills look like John describes. I am 99% sure they are original, but I did not buy the car new, so who knows?

These are originals from my 10/04/68 build date. Silver painted, same as 1968.

From the pictures it does look like you have one 68 style and one 69. I'd be interested to know what the part numbers on the rear of the grills are?

I agree. The right side is a '68 style and the left side is a '69 style. I'll look at these tonight and see if I can find a part number.
