    vent window regulator rebuild

I'm going to order parts from Mike at America's Finest to rebuild my drivers side 66 convertible vent window regulator. Anyone ever rebuild one? My regulator was repaired already by others as the rivets were drilled out on the cover plate and screws added.

    Thanks,
    Dave K.

I've tried them once but I don't like that fact that it uses a spacer to shim the gear up past the internal stops so that there is nothing to limit the range of the gear rotation like the original. I ended up not using them and getting the ones from Paragon. They are a direct replacement for the originals.

If you're set on using the AF brand, I'll see if I can find a set in my junk pile and send it to you for free.

Dave...Winter 2011 Restorer page 40 article by Dave Alder should help. Talks about removing the frame/glass and also rebuilding the regulator. Also a number of articles on the Restorer CD reference same.

        Jim,

Your comments made me think again. I want the vent window to operate like original so now you have me thinking that I should purchase the Paragon rebuild kit. Their web site has the instructions posted. My regulators were rebuilt once using Paragon parts but I know I put too much pressure on the gearing by overtightening to get a tight seal of the wing in the new weatherstrip. I'll know better the next time.

        Thanks,
        Dave K.

I've done the "re-peen" the casted rivets trick before.....it doesn't last very long. Recently I did the "drill-out" the casted rivets trick, drill & tap for #10-24 SS machine screws, and I like it much better. I thought I had a photo of the finished "screw" version but I don't.
